VC Baseball Can't Hold Early Lead at Canyons

The Pirate baseball team took a 3-0 lead after three innings on the shoulders of centerfielder Elijah Alexander, but could not make hold up, falling 10-3 Saturday at College of the Canyons in a non-conference game. Alexander had two hits, including a two-run home run, scored two runs and added a stolen base for Ventura (18-13, 8-7).

Brendan Griffith drove in Alexander for VC's first score of the day in the top of the first inning.  The Pirates added two more scores on Alexander's two-run bomb in the third to take a 3-0 advantage.

Canyons came back with four runs in the fifth inning, then put the game away with four more scores in the seventh.  The Cougars added two runs in the eighth for the 10-3 margin.

Charlie Brooks made the start for VC on the mound taking the loss, and Andrew Nardi threw one inning of scoreless relief. 

The Pirates continue their non-conference schedule on Tuesday April 11 at home against Pasadena. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 pm at Pirate Park.
