Teron 2nd Overall for Golf at Pt. Conception Open

VC sophomore Mason Teron tees things up Monday morning at the season-opening Pt. Conception Open at La Purisma Golf Course in Lompoc. He posted a score of 74-79--153 in the two-day, 36-hole event to claim second place individually out of 113 golfers. VC finished sixth out of 20 teams.

VC sophomore Mason Teron shot a 74-79--153 to claim second place at the season-opening 36-hole Pt. Conception Open Sunday and Monday at La Purisima Golf Course in Lompoc. His 9-over par final tally put him three strokes behind the medalist in the event that included 113 individual golfers. As a team Ventura carded a respectable 395-419--814 to come in sixth out of the 20 participating teams.

The Pirates were third after the first day Sunday with a team score of 395. Teron was thrid overall with a 2-over 74 and Michael Ray and Nick Burns each carded a 77. Tyler Herrera shot 83 followed by Kaden Santos' 84 and Jake Yasutake's 88.

Reedley went low on day one with a 378 followed by Mt. San Antonio at 395 and cypress and Ventura at 395. Western State Conference foe Santa Barbara posted a score of 402 Sunday.

Teron did well despite tougher conditions Monday with a 7-over 79. His two-day total of 153 was good for runner-up status in the tournament. Burns had the Pirates' low round of the day at 78, giving him a two-day score of 155, which was tied for seventh place. Ray was forced to withdraw Monday due to an injury.  Other VC scores Monday included Santos at 86, Yasutake at 87 and Herrera with an 89. 

Ventura posted a team score of 419 Monday for a two-day total of 814, good for sixth place overall. Reedley finished in first with a team score of 378-403--781 followed by Cypress (395-398--793), Mt. San Antonio (394-399--793), Santa Barbara (402-399--801), Irvine Valley (396-408--804) and Ventura.

The Pirates opens conference play on Monday Feb. 3 at the WSC No. 1 hosted by College of the Canyons at Valencia Country Club.
