Softball Sweeps, Takes Three of Four From Bakersfield

The Pirate softball team swept a double header in Bakersfield Saturday, winning by scores of 10-6 and 15-10, respectively. The two victories gave VC three wins in the last four games, all against the Renegades. Morgan Albertsen pitched a complete game in Game 1 and threw five innings in relief in Game 2 to pick up both wins on the day. Leanna De La Cruz had six hits on the day while Isabel Gallegos and Courtney Terrazas each hit a home run for the Pirates (7-5).

Ventura 10, Bakersfield 6

Ventura scored two runs in each of the first two innings to take a 4-0 lead. Bakersfield came back with three in the third and another score in the fourth to tie the game before the Pirates exploded for six runs in the fifth. BC plated two scores in the bottom of the seventh to set the final score.

De La Cruz led the offense with three hits and a pair of runs batted in while Celeste Pacheco was 2-3 wit three RBI. Gallegos had a double and a home run with three RBI and Terrazas hit a solo home run. Abby Strong was 2-5 with a run batted in and Abygail Hall was 2-4 with a double.

Albertsen pitched a complete game in the circle for the victory.

Ventura 15, Bakersfield 10

After scoring a run in the top of the first for the early lead, the Pirates yielded seven runs to the Renegades in the bottom of the second. VC countered with a pair of scores in the third inning, but BC got one back in the bottom half of the frame. Ventura scored twice in the fourth, but Bakersfield scored twice in the fifth for a 10-5 lead. The Pirates scored 10 runs in the final two innings to post the come-from-behind victory.

Jalen Barron was 5-5 in the game with a pair of doubles with four runs batted in and three runs scored. De La Cruz was 3-4, including a double, with one RBI and three runs scored while Gallegos and Strong each had a paif of hits and two RBI. Terrazas also had a pair of hits with one run batted in as did Aleska Page. Hall had a hit and two RBI while Pacheco scored four runs in the game.

Kat Tafoya got the start in the circle and Albertsen came on in relief.

Ventura will play two games against Oxnard College in the coming week, at OC on Wednesday May 19 and at home on Saturday May 22.
