McCarthy (St. Bonaventure), still battling a leg injury he suffered in the regional prelims, finished fourth in the javelin competition with a 181' throw on his final attempt to place fourth. His mark is the No. 6-ranked distance in VC history and earned him first team All-American honors.
Meanwhile, Torres (Oxnard) ran a 39:06.58 in the 10k run to place seventh in the race and earn her the No. 4 mark all-time at Ventura College. She earned second team All-American accolades for her performance.
Cole Everett (Nordhoff) also competed for the Pirates in the high jump. In difficult and windy conditions, he was one of four competitors to miss all three of their attempts at 6'2 3/4".
In the team standings, VC's men earned 5 points to tie for 28th of 35 scoring teams at the two-day meet. The Pirate women tallied 2 points to tie for 35th of 26 scoring teams.
