2024-25 Ventura College Women's Basketball Team News
Ventura College student athletes excelled once again in the classroom in 2024-25 with a total of 101 Pirates achieving a 3.5 GPA or higher, earning mention on the Dean's List, in the fall 2024 term while taking in 12 or more units of study, with 46 student athletes recording a perfect 4.0 GPA. In spring 2025, 99 VC student athletes were named on the Dean's List with 44 posting perfect GPA's.
Ventura College women's basketball alumna Adria (Sneed) Harris '97 was inducted into the California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame Thursday at the CCCWBCA Banquet of Champions associated with the 3C2A State Elite Eight at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut. The two-time state champion and two-time All-State selection becomes the fourth Pirate to be inducted into the state coaches' Hall of Fame.
Ventura sophomores Sam McKenzie and Alexa Coubal were both named first team all-Western State Conference for their performance during the 2024-25 season. It is the second All-WSC honor for both players as they earned the same distinction in 2023-24.
VC sophomore Alexa Coubal saved her best for last Friday, posting the program's first-ever 30-20 double-double in Ventura's 90-27 victory over Oxnard in the season finale. The Thousand Oaks product scored 33 points on 16-18 shooting from the floor with 22 rebounds in the Pirate win. Sam McKenzie closed her VC career witth 22 points and 10 assists while Danielle Salazar scored 14 points with 13 boards. Milan Garcia also netted 14 points for the Pirates.
The VC women's basketball team traveled to Allan Hancock College Wednesday, leaving Santa Maria with a 55-47 setback against the Bulldogs. Sam McKenzie was the lone Pirate in double-figures with 18 points while Alexa Coubal netted eight points with 14 rebounds. Danielle Salazar scored nine points with eight boards in the contest.
The Pirates' women's basketball team fell behind Cuesta early and could never recover in their 57-42 loss to the Cougars Saturday at the Athletic Event Center. Alexa Coubal was 9-10 at the free throw line, scoring 13 points with 14 rebounds and Danielle Salazar came off the bench to score 12 points. Sam McKenzie added 10 points, three assists and four steals in the game.
The Pirates' women's basketball team raced past Los Anglees Mission Monday 71-40 in a game rescheduled from Jan. 8. Sam McKenzie exploded for 25 points while Alexa Coubal netted 21 points with 10 rebounds. Aiyana Gonzalez pulled down a game-high 16 boards and Danielle Salazar added eight points off the bench for VC.
The VC women's basketball team fought for the full 40 minutes Saturday despite their 86-68 setback against Santa Barbara at the Athletic Event Center. Sam McKenzie led Ventura with 24 points, five rebounds and four steals and Alexa Coubal posted a double-dozen with 12 points and 12 boards along with four assists. Danielle Salazar netted 18 points, including five made 3-pointers.
The VC women's basketball team dropped an 89-55 decision to visiting Moorpark Wednesday evening at the Athletic Event Center. Alexa Coubal had a double-double of 18 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Pirates while Sam McKenzie and Danielle Salazar netted 15 and 12 points, respectively.
The Pirates' women's basketball team had four players score in double figures Saturday as VC routed Los Anglees Mission 71-35 in Sylmar. Aiyana Gonzalez had a season-high 17 points on 8-9 shooting from the floor and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Pirates. Danielle Salazar netted 13 points while Alexa Coubal had a double-double of 12 points and 10 boards. Charnelle Nichols also scored 11 in the Ventura triumph.
The VC women's basketball team bounced back in a big way Wednesday, routing Oxnard 93-29 at the Condors' Nest. Milan Garcia led three players with 20-plus points with 26 while Sam McKenzie and Alexa Coubal totaled 23 and 20 points, respectively. Coubal added 18 rebounds and Aiyana Gonzalez pulled down 19 boards with eight points. Charnelle Nichols added 11 points in the victory.
The VC women's basketball team dropped a Western State Conference contest against Allan Hancock College Saturday at the Athletic Event Center, 47-31. Sam McKenzie and Alexa Coubal each scored eight points to lead the Pirates and Coubal also pulled down 15 rebounds. Charnelle Nichols had six boards and Aiyana Gonzalez grabbed five caroms with two assists and three steals. Milan Garcia handed out five assists for VC.
The VC women's basketball team captured a 69-63 victory in their longest roadtrip of the season in San Luis Obispo against Cuesta. Sam McKenzie led the effort with 18 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter, ana Alanna Topete netted 17. Milan Garcia totaled 14 points in the win and Alexa Coubal scored 14 for the Pirates.
VC sophomore Alexa Coubal scored 20 points on 7-9 shooting from the floor and a 6-8 performance at the free throw line, and she added eight rebounds, but it was not enough as the Pirates' women's basketball team fell short at Santa Barbara Wednesday, 70-55. Sam McKenzie netted 17 points with eight boards while Danielle Salazar and Alanna Topete scored eight and seven points, respectively.
Due to uncertainty surrounding ongoing Public Safety Power Shutoffs and anticipated high winds, the home women's and men's basketball games scheduled for Wednesday Jan. 15 have been moved to Santa Barbara. SBCC will travel to Ventura on Saturday Feb. 8.
The VC women's basketball team dropped its Western State Conference North Division Opener at Moorpark Saturday afternoon. Sam McKenzie led the Pirate effort with 10 points and four assists while Alanna Topete netted nine. Alexa Coubal scored eight points with 14 rebounds in the 100-47 setback to the Raiders.
