Ty Morris Bella Palacios & Alexa Coubal, 2024-25 Scholar Athletes
Ty Morris of the Pirate football team, women's water polo's Bella Palacios and Alexa Coubal from women's basketball have been named as the Ventura College Athletic Department's Scholar Athletes of the Year. All three were recognized on May 4 at the annual VC Athletics Hall of Fame Induction and Student Athlete recognition Banquet.
Morris, a redshirt freshman from Buena High School, was named second team All-SCFA Northern Conference for his play at the cornerback position. He was second on the football team with 49 tackles in 2024, playing in all 11 games. He also recorded 4.5 tackles for a loss, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery and 12 pass break-ups. He maintained a perfect 4.0 Grade Point Average through the 2023-24 academic year and through the fall of 2024 and has signed a full scholarship to play at the University of South Dakota.
Palacios, a sophomore from Bakersfield's Liberty high School, played in 34 games for the VC women's water polo team over two seasons. She also maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA through the fall 2024 semester.
Coubal, a Thousand Oaks High School graduate, was a two-time All-Western State Conference honoree in basketball. She averaged 15.0 points and 11.7 rebounds over her 55-game career with the Pirates. She also set new school records for career free throws made and career free throw percentage. Coubal, like the other honorees, produced a perfect 4.0 GPA through fall of 2024.
