Ventura Takes Two on the Beach in Huntington

The VC beach volleyball team won a pair of matches Friday in Huntington Beach, sweeping Golden West 5-0 before defeating NCAA Division II Cal State Los Angeles, 3-2. Leslie Perez and Kayla Hosch won twice on the day, including the match-winner against CSULA while Morgan Gallagher and Miranda Unzueta also won twice on the day for the Pirates (5-1).

In the first match of the day, the Pirates swept the Rustlers, 5-0. Tatum Teel and Julia Stalker received a win via forfeit at No. 5 and Unzueta and Gallagher easily won their No. 3 contest, 21-9, 21-10. Hosch and Perez followed with a win at the No. 2 slot, 21-10, 21-11 and Raphaella Rosales and Vanessa Ihrke prevailed in their No. 1 match 21-19, 21-13. Brooklyn Wallet and Tatiana Rodriguez had the closest contest in the match, coming from behind to win their No. 4 match in three sets, 22-24, 21-18, 15-13.

In the match against Cal State LA, Unzueta and Gallagher finished first, taking their No. 3 slot, 21-9, 21-12. After the Golden Eagles earned a point at No. 4, Teel and Stalker put VC back ahead with a 21-14, 19-21, 15-11 triumph at No. 5. Cal State LA evened the match with their win at No. 1 before Hosch and Perez clinched the win for the Pirates, taking their No. 2 slot, 21-18, 19-21, 15-12.

Ventura gets their first match at home on Friday March 6 hosting the club team from Pasadena City College. Matches begin at 10:00 am at the Harbor Cove Courts at the Ventura Marina.
