Pirates Claim Two Victories at the Beach

It was a different week but the results were the same for the Pirates' beach volleyball team as they defeated Moorpark and Mt. San Antonio for the second week in a row at the Ventura Harbor Courts. VC defeated the Raiders 3-2 in the first match of the day and followed with a 4-1 victory over Mt. SAC. VC's No. 5 pair of Amaris Garcia and Bethany Bird recorded a pair of wins on the day.

The Pirates and Raiders were locked into a tight battle in the first match of the day. Moorpark took a 2-0 lead win straight-set wins at Nos. 2 and 3 before VC came storming back. Garcia and Bird helped turn the tide with a 21-19, 23-21 win at No. 3 while Alexis Baloyo and Amelie Zubia came from behind to register a 18-21, 21-18, 15-10 victory at No. 1. Finally, Ventura's No. 4 pair of Savannah Marchese and Tatum Teel outlasted their Moorpark opponents, winning a dramatic 20-22, 21-16, 16-14 match to claim the victory for the Pirates.

Ventura had an easier time with the Mounties in their second contest of the day. VC led 2-1 on the strength of straight-set wins at No. 3 with Monica Montoya and Madelyn Grajeda, 21-19, 21-3, and at No. 1 with Baloyo and Zubia, 21-12, 21-16. Tatiana Rodriguez and Darynne Bickers clinched the triumph with a 21-14, 14-21, 15-9 win at No. 3 while Garcia and Bird finished off the match with a 19-21, 21-18, 15-10 come-from-behind victory at No. 5.

Ventura returns to action on Friday May 14 hosting Bakersfield and Mt. SAC at the Ventura Harbor Courts. The match with the Renegades is scheduled for 9:00 am while the Pirates will take on the Mounties at 12:45 pm.
