VC Beach Volleyball Wins Two WSC Matches in Santa Monica

The VC beach volleyball team traveled to Santa Monica's Ocean Beach Friday and came home with a pair of sweeping Western State Conference victories. The Pirates defeated Glendale 5-0 in the opener before blanking Moorpark in the second match of the morning. VC's No. 1 pair of Alexis Baloyo and Amelie Zubia, and the No. 3 team of Amaris Garcia and Katey Mulville each swept their two contests of the day.

In the first match of the day, Ventura (11-3, 5-1) easily dispatched of Glendale, 5-0. The Vaqueros came in shorthanded and VC won the Nos. 4 and 5 slots by default to go ahead 2-0. Savannah Marchese and Averi Carter won in the No. 2 match 21-4, 21-10 while Garcia and Mulville easily prevailed in No. 3, 21-5, 21-11. Baloyo and Zubia completed the sweep with a 21-15, 21-19 victory at No. 1.

Ventura also earned one point by forfeit over Moorpark before the match began. Grace Williams and Madelyn Grajeda claimed the No. 4 match 21-4, 21-8 before Garcia and Mulville clinched the Pirate triumph 21-8, 21-7 at No. 3. Baloyo and Zubia won their No. 1 match 27-25, 21-12 before Marchese and Carter edged their opponents in the No. 2 slot, 21-17, 19-21, 15-10.

Ventura hosts its first contests of the year at the Ventura Harbor Courts on Friday April 8. The Pirates will battle Santa Barbara in a match-up of the WSC's two top teams at 9:00 am before taking on Santa Monica at 1:00 pm.
