Beach volleyball Heading to Southern California Regionals

For the fourth time in five opportunities, the Ventura College beach volleyball team is headed to the post-season. The Pirates (14-4) have been seeded No. 9 in Southern California and will travel to No. 1 Orange Coast to take on the Pirates of the South and No. 8 Santa Barbara in the CCCAA SoCal Regional playoffs. The regionals will be hosted by OCC on Tuesday May 3 in Huntington Beach.

Taking on Orange Coast will be difficult, but not impossible for the Pirates. OCC just completed an undefeated regular season at 14-0 and have lost just three matches all season. VC and OCC did not play this season, but have many common opponents. Ventura is 5-0 against No. 12 Mt. San Antonio, Golden West, Rio Hondo, Riverside and Santa Ana with a 24-1 match record while OCC is 7-0 against the same opponents with a 35-0 match record. VC is 1-2 in 2022 against teams who made the playoffs while Orange Coast is 7-0.

Ventura's second opponent in the regional is more familiar. VC and Santa Barbara (13-1) played a pair of matches in Western State Conference play with the Vaqueros coming out on top both times by a narrow 3-2 margin.  They are both 2-0 against common opponents outside of the WSC, Mt. SAC and Santa Ana, with VC winning all 10 matches in those contests while Santa Barbara is 9-1.

The winner of the regional will advance to the CCCAA State Championships May 12 at Irvine Valley.

Ventura's next competition is the WSC Pairs Tournament that begins on Thursday April 28 in Santa Barbara and concludes on April 29 at the Ventura Harbor Courts hosted by Bakersfield.
