The Pirates dropped a 3-2 decision to Santa Monica before sweeping past Bakersfield 5-0 in the finale. The Pirates defeated Moorpark 4-1 in the morning match before falling by a razor-thin margin against Santa Barbara in the afternoon affair. Ventura's No. 4 pair of Addison Olsen and Giannamay Tayco won both their contests on the day to lead the Pirates (12-4, 4-2).
The Pirate beach volleyball team battled NCAA Division I Nebraska Thursday in Santa Monica, faring well against the Cornhuskers in the 5-0 setback. Shai Daniels and Viola Barrios had an excellent opening set at no. 1 while Liz Schalde and Daphne Raymond held an early 11-2 lead at No. 5.
The Ventura College beach volleyball team opened their season with two wins at Rosie's Dog Beach in Long Beach against Cerritos and Golden West, winning 3-2 and 4-1, respectively. The Pirates have a young roster, returning only three sophomores and adding two transfers and ten freshmen. Two of the first-year players, Shai Daniels and Viola Barrios, debuted at the No. 1 spot and went undefeated on the day, winning 21-12, 21-16, and again 21-12, 21-16.
