The American Baseball Coaches Association is proud to recognize the nearly 700 member college and high school programs from across the country that have been awarded the 2021-22 ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award, which is presented by Sports Attack. VC achieved an overall grade point average of 3.30 for the entire 2021-22 academic year to earn recognition from the ABCA.

The VC baseball team could not hold onto its early 3-2 lead, falling at Cuesta 14-5 Thursday afternoon. Andrew Savage, John Oleson and Ramon Torres all had a pair of hits on the day, and each had a double with a run scored. JR Godinez also ran out a pair of base hits for Ventura in the game. Sebastian Garcia, Anthony Betancourt and Jonah Schaller all had scoreless innings on the mound in relief.

After scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning, the Pirate baseball team could not hold its early lead in falling 7-4 to College of the Canyons Tuesday afternoon at Pirate Park. Nick Schopp, Casey Turturici and Ramon Torres all had two hits for the Pirates (3-7). JR Godines, Reiss Calvin and Connor Vogel all had one hit and scored a run in the defeat.

JC baseball can sometimes be a little crazy, That certainly was the case Friday afternoon at Pirate Park when 26 batters came to the plate in the first inning-and-a-half with 12 runs crossing the plate. Visiting Bakersfield then jumped out to a 10-6 advantage in the fifth, and VC's comeback bid fell short in their 11-10 loss to the Renegades. Shortstop Ramon Torres had three runs batted in, as did third baseman Gage Allen to lead Ventura (3-5).

The VC baseball team scored four runs on five hits in the top of the first inning, and plated a score in four more frames in their 11-6 victory at Citrus College Tuesday afternoon. Gage Allen was 4-4 on the day with two runs scored and a run batted in while Reiss Calvin and John Oleson each belted out three hits. Jake Read pitched into the fourth inning i the start, giving up two earned runs and striking out three for the Pirates (3-4).

The VC baseball team held a 6-3 lead through five innings, but could not hang on as visiting Glendale scored 11 times in the final four frames to down the Pirates 14-7 Thursday afternoon. Leadoff hitter Reiss Calvin had a pair of hits, including a double, and scored two runs, and John Oleson was 2-4 with two runs batted in, two stolen bases and two runs scored in the setback. Starter Jake Read threw five complete innings, giving up three runs on six hits but did not factor into the decision.
