Pirate baseball drops season finale

The VC baseball team carried a three-run lead into the sixth inning Friday afternoon at Pirate Park, but Allan Hancock answered with a four-run rally and held on for a 4-3 win in the regular season finale. Damien Valdez had a pair of hits, including a double, with a run batted in to lead the Pirates while Hector Pina singled, walked and scored a run. Jaden Valdez, Alex Escobar and Nicholas Tostado all threw multiple scoreless innings from the mound.

A five-run outburst in the second inning proved decisive as Ventura defeated host Moorpark 5-1 Saturday. A five-run first inning set the tone as Ventura defeated rival Moorpark 9-5 on Thursday afternoon at Pirate Park, riding early offense and a steady bullpen to the Western State Conference victory. Lucas Martinov had a two-RBI single for VC and Nate Lajole also knocked in a pair of runs for the Pirates. Ventura used seven pitchers to shut down the Raiders in the win.

The VC baseball team swept a double header Saturday at Pirate Park against Los Angelees Pierce College, 6-2 and 11-7. Tyler Field led the effort with two doubles, a home run and four runs batted in on the day for the Pirates (7-8, 2-1) and Hector Pina recorded a pair of two-baggers with three RBI. Will Kaczynski pitched five scoreless innings to pick up the win in Game 1 and Alex Villacana gave up one run over 2.2 innings of middle relief for the victory in the nightcap.
