In a season that concluded with a "what if," the Ventura College men’s golf team looked to make a deep run into the CCCAA State Championships in May. When the 2020 season was suspended due to the coronavirus, the Pirates were alone in second place in the difficult Western State Conference, trailing only defending state champion College of the Canyons. The Pirates had three runner-up finishes and a pair of third-place finishes in five WSC events. In addition to the stellar play of sophomore Mason Teron, two freshmen, Evan Colborn and Steen Zeman each notched individual third-place finishes at separate events.
Steen Zeman shot a 2-under par 70 on Monday at Santa Maria Country Club, good for a third place finish, to lead the VC golf team to a season best score of 369 to take second place overall at the Western State Conference No. 5 hosted by Allan Hancock College. Mason Teron had a 1-over 73 to come in sixth out of 47 golfers. Canyons won the event with a team score of 357, 3-under par, followed by the Pirates' 9-over mark. Santa Barbara was third at 382.
Sometimes in golf,Mother Nature wins. That was the case Monday at Oakmont Country Club in Glendale as only two players broke 80 on the difficult Par-72 course at the Western State Conference No. 2 hosted by Glendale College. The Pirates carded a 414 as a team to finish second, just five strokes behind College of the Canyons. Freshman Evan Colborn was the low man for VC, shooting an 80 to finish in a tie for third place overall.
In windy and cold conditions, Mason Teron fired a 3-over 75 to lead the Pirate golf team to a second place finish at the Western State Conference event hosted by College of the Canyons at Valencia Country Club on Monday. Ventura carded a team score of 408 for a second place finish behind the host Cougars with a 389. Santa Barbara was third two shots behind VC.
