Ventura Tennis Has Another Strong Outing

The VC men's tennis team continued its strong play with a 9-0 sweep at Bakersfield College on Thursday. Playing in his first collegiate singles match, Yuya Koide had a golden set, then lost just two points in winning his No. 6 singles match, love and love. Meanwhile Cody Castro (No. 5 singles), Alexandre Campolina (No. 4 singles) and Charles De La Laurencie (No. 1 singles) all blanked their opponents 6-0, 6-0.

The Pirates started off by sweeping the doubles competition, Antonio Rosales and Castro won their No. 1 slot 8-1 and De La Laurencie and Koide triumphed at No. 2 by the same score. Ventura (4-0, 3-0) won No. 3 doubles by default.

In singles, Koide did not lose a point in the first set, and dropped just two points in the second in his love, love win at No. 6. De La Laurencie won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 and Leo Noni prevailed 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2. Ryan Lam won his No. 3 singles match, 6-1, 6-1 while Campolina blanked his opponent at No. 4, 6-0, 6-0. Finally, Castro triumphed at No. 5 by another love, love count.

VC next hosts Riverside on Tuesday Feb. 18 beginning at 2:00 pm at the VC Tennis Center.
