Men's Tennis Earns National Academic Distinction

With an overall team grade point average of 3.71 during the spring semester, the Ventura College men's tennis team is one of eight programs nationally, and the only squad in California, to be honored as an All-Academic Team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Additionally, the Pirates have eight individuals who have been named ITA Scholar Athletes. Only 11 men's tennis student athletes from California were honored by the national coaches' association.

The Ventura College men's tennis team went 6-0 in Western State Conference match play, winning 52 of 54 match-ups en route to the 2023 conference title. That dominance was reflected with seven Pirates earning All-WSC accolades, including co-MVP awards for Jinsei Tajima and Santino Serralonga. Philemon Jabin, Valentino Oggero and Julian Tellez also earned first team All-WSC awards in singles while Lucas Abreau and Eduardo Gorgonio Criscuolo joined with first team accolades in doubles.

Ventura College's Santino Serralonga and Jinsei Tajima both advanced to the CCCAA state quarterfinals with a pair of singles victories Friday in The Ojai Tournament Friday. Meanwhile, Tajima and Philemon Jabin moved forward in the doubles draw with a Round of 32 win.

All three men's doubles teams and three of VC's singles entrants advanced past day one of the CCCAA State Singles and Doubles Championships Thursday at The Ojai Tournament. Lucas Abraeu, Santino Serralonga and Jinsei Tajima all moved forward in both the singles and doubles draws for the Pirates.

Pirate Run Ends in Regional Final

The VC men's tennis team had another undefeated run come to an end Saturday with a 6-1 setback Saturday at College of the Desert in the Southern California Regional Final. Jinsei Tajima and Philemon Jabin won their No. 1 doubles match for the lone point for VC (15-1) as their team season comes to an end in Palm Desert for the second straight year.

The No. 2-seeded Ventura College men's tennis team continued their post-season run with a 5-1 victory over No. 3 Riverside on Tuesday at the VC Tennis Center. Santino Serralonga and Jinsei Tajima each were double-winners on the day in helping the Pirates advance to the Southern California Regional Finals.

The VC men's tennis team was dominant Tuesday in their 5-0 playoff victory over visiting Orange Coast. Valentino Oggero and Santino Serralonga had the biggest margin of victory in doubles in their No. 2 slot while Julian Tellez blanked his opponent in No. 6 singles in the win.

Coming off the program's sixth Western State Conference championship in the past seven years, the VC men's tennis team has been awarded the No. 2 seed in the Southern California Regional playoffs beginning Tuesday April 11. The Pirates (13-0), coming off their second straight undefeated regular season, will host No. 7 (8) Orange Coast at the VC Tennis Center beginning at 2:00 pm Tuesday.

Ventura's Jinsei Taima and Santino Serralonga each advanced to the Western State Conference singles championship with two victories each in the draw held at the VC Tennis Center. In doubles, Tajima and Philemon Jabin along with Lucas Abreau and Eduardo Gorgonio Criscuolo each moved on to the semifinals to be played Saturday April 1.

The VC men's tennis team was dominant on the first day of the Western State Conference Singles and Doubles Championships Thursday at the VC Tennis Center. The Pirates hold five of the eight spots in the singles quarterfinals scheduled for day two and also have three of eight doubles quarterfinalists. Philemon Jabin, Julian Tellez and Lucas Abreau all posted two singles victories on the day for VC.

The Ventura College men's tennis team continued its undefeated regular season with a convincing 8-1 win at Orange Coast Friday in Costa Mesa. Julian Tellez and Valentino Oggero each were double winners on the courts for VC (12-0, 5-0) while Santino Serralonga also recorded a pair of points in the victory.

The Pirates' men's tennis team retained the Hank Pfister Cup Saturday with a pair of victories at the North/South Challenge at the Seven Oaks Country Club in Bakersfield. VC swept Chabot 9-0 before defeating American River 7-2.. Junsei Tajima, Philemon Jabin and Julian Tellez all recorded two singles wins and a doubles victory on the day to lead the Pirates (11-0, 5-0), who, along with Irvine Valley and College of the Desert, remain one of three undefeated teams in the state.

Valentino Oggero and Julian Tellez each posted love, love victories in singles play while Eduardo Gorgonio Criscuolo and Lucas Abreau had an 8-0 win in doubles play for the Pirates (9-0, 5-0).

Men's Tennis Clinches WSC Crown With Sweep

The VC men's tennis team clinched the 2023 Western State Conference championship with a 9-0 sweep over Glendale Thursday at the VC Tennis Center. Santino Serralonga and Valentino Oggero provided the most lopsided socres on the day in No. 2 doubles and Nos. 2 and 5 singles, respectively. The WSC title is the program's sixth in the last seven seasons and its 22nd overall.

The VC men's tennis team traveled to Santa Barbara Tuesday, coming home with an 8-1 victory over the Vaqueros. Santino Serralonga, Lucas Abreau and Valentino Oggero were all double winners for the Pirates (7-0, 4-0). Jinsei Tajima, Philemon Jabin and Julian Tellez also produced points in singles play while Eduardo Gorgonio Criscuolo  partnered with Abreau for a win in doubles.

The Pirates' men's tennis team completed its first round sweep of the Western State Conference Thursday with a 9-0 victory at Glendale Thursday. Santino Serralonga had the biggest win of the day, a love, love decision at No. 2 singles. Serralonga, along with Jinsei Tajima, Valentino Oggero, and Lucas Abreau all were double winners in the sweeping victory for Ventura (6-0, 3-0).

The Ventura College men's tennis team kept their early season roll going on Friday with a 9-0 victory over Saddleback at the VC Tennis Center. Robinson Pelluault was the only double-winner for VC (4-0, 2-0) with triumphs in No. 2 doubles with Jared Gillespie and in No. 6 singles. Jinsei Tajima and Valentino Oggero also posted love, love wins in Nos. 1 and 4 singles, respectively. The Pirates played 11 players in the 12 possible spots against the Bobcats, showing off their depth and versatility.
