Men's Tennis Sweeps Through SoCal Quarterfinals

The VC men's tennis team opened the 3C2A Southern California Regional Playoffs Tuesday with a sweeping 5-0 win over Mt. San Antonio. The No. 2-seeded Pirates claimed all three doubles matches before Edgar Ploquin and Leo Pham-Kobayashi won at Nos. 5 and 6 singles to clinch the victory.

Cody Ray Emery and Lucas Abreu defeated the No. 8-seeded Mounties' No. 1 doubles pair 8-4 to begin the day while Rafael Matias and Julian Tellez won in No. 2 doubles, 8-3. Robinson Pelluault and Ploquin claimed the No. 3 doubles match, 8-4.

In singles, Ploquin won in the No. 5 slot, love and one before Pham-Kobayashi posted a one and love triumph in the No. 6 singles match to secure the Pirate win. Matias (No. 1 singles), Abreu (No. 2), Tellez (No. 3) and Pelluault (no. 4) were all up one set and ahead in their second set when the victory arrived.

Ventura moves ahead to the SoCal Regional Semifinals on Tuesday April 16. VC will host No. 4-seed Riverside at 2:00 pm at the VC Tennis Center. The Pirates will be seeking a bit of redemption along with a trip to the SoCal Finals as the Tigers are the only community college team to defeat Ventura this season, claiming a 5-4 win on March 1 in Riverside.
