Men's Tennis Champions on the Court and in the Classroom
The 3C2A State Champion VC men's tennis team added to their banner year by earning All-Academic Team honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association last week. The Pirates were one of 14 JUCO men's tennis teams from around the country recognized by the ITA for academic excellence, three of which are from California. Additionally, Ventura had seven student athletes awarded Scholar Athlete awards for outstanding individual accomplishment in the classroom.

Additionally, Ventura had seven student athletes awarded Scholar Athlete awards for outstanding individual accomplishment in the classroom.
Sophomores Cody Ray Emery and Robinson Pelluault, along with freshmen Luca Falvo, Leo Pham-Kobayashi, Edgar Ploquin, Rafael Matias and Tiebe Verschaeve all posted above a 3.2 grade point average to earn individual academic accolades.
Within the sport of tennis, student-athletes continue to exceed expectations in the classroom and on the court. In 2024, 86 JUCO Men's student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, and 14 men's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction.
To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, one must meet the following requirements:
- Have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year
- Be listed on the institutional eligibility form
To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must meet the following requirements:
- Have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale),
- All student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form, and
- All varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year
In addition to completing the Pirates' 20th WSC championship in 26 years under head coach Nelson Emery, the Pirates posted an overall record of 18-6, including a 17-1 mark against community college teams en route to the 2024 3C2A State Team Championship, Ventura's third under Coach Emery. VC also won the Gorham Cup as the outstanding community college team at The Ojai Tournament.
