Pirates Sweep Whittier 7-0 in Men's Tennis

The VC men's tennis team traveled to NCAA Div. III Whittier College Thursday, coming home with a 7-0 sweep over the Poets. Caua Coimbra was one of several double winners for VC, winning No. 1 doubles with Abladj Mondroha and also claiming the No. 1 singles match.

Ventura began with a strong sweep in doubles play. Yanis Guerrout and Ariitea Cotti-Helme won in the No. 2 contest 6-1 before Coimbra and Mondroha posted their 6-3 win at No. 1. Yusen Sato and Victor Peyrebonne completed the point with a 6-2 victory in No. 3 doubles.

Coimbra was first to finish his singles match with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at No. 1. Peyrebonne recorded a solid 6-3, 6-3 win on court No. 3 and Mondroha claimed the No. 4 singles contest, 6-3, 6-1. Cotti-Helme then won in No. 6 singles, 6-4, 6-1 before Sato posted a 6-0, 7-5 win in the No. 2 slot. Guerrout completed the shutout with a 6-2, 6-1 victory in No. 5 singles.

Ventura next travels to Occidental College on Saturday Feb. 14.
