Ventura Blasts Bakersfield in Men's Tennis

The VC men's tennis team blasted past Bakersfield 8-1 Tuesday in Western State Conference play. Abladj Mondroha led the effort with a No. 1 doubles win with Caua Coimbra and a solid victory in No. 4 singles.

The Pirates jumped the Renegades with a sweep in doubles. Coimbra and Mondroha, along with Yanis Guerrout and Ariitea Cotti-Helme each claimed 8-5 triumphs in Nos. 1 and 2 doubles, respectively. Yusen Sato and Victor Peyrebonne finished off the sweep with an 8-4 win on Court 3.

In singles play, Sato was on fire with a one-and-love victory in the No. 2 match while Peyrebonne won in No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-2. Mondroha claimed Court 4 with a 6-3, 6-3 win and Guerrout won the No. 5 singles contest. 6-3, 6-4. Cotti-Helme finished things off with a 7-6, 6-5 victory in No. 6 singles.

The Pirates will return to the courts on Friday Feb. 27 at Mt. San Antonio before continuing their tour of the NCAA Division III SCIAC playing Claremont College and UC Santa Cruz on Saturday Feb. 28 at Claremont.
