Pirates Defeat Hope International, 5-2

The VC men's tennis team traveled to Fullerton Friday, coming home with a 5-2 victory over NAIA-affiliated Hope International. Caua Coimbra and Abladj Mondroha were double winners for the Pirates together in No. 1 doubles and in Nos. 1 and 4 singles, respectively. Additionally, Shingo Ono and Manolo Vanbesien were victorious in No. 3 doubles and each won a singles contest, as well.

Coimbra and Mondroha claimed their top doubles match with a 6-4 win while Ono and Vanbesien prevailed in the No. 3 slot 6-3 giving VC the doubles point.

Coimbra then claimed the top singles contest with a three-set triumph, 7-6 (5), 1-6, 10-8. Mondroha swept on Court 4, 6-0, 6-2 and Ono claimed a 7-6 (10), 6-3 win in the No. 5 singles match. Vanbesien finished the Ventura win with a 6-2, 6-3 straight-sets decision in the No. 6 slot.

Ventura (8-4, 1-0) resumes play against California community college teams on Tuesday Mar. 10 at Riverside.
