Men's Tennis Drops WSC Match at Bakersfield

For the first time since 2019, the Pirates' men's tennis team dropped a Western State Conference match Tuesday, falling at Bakersfield 5-4. The Renegades ended VC's 35-match winning streak despite a strong day from Victor Peyrebonne who won in No. 3 doubles with Shingo Ono and in No. 4 singles.

Ventura started the day dropping two of the three doubles matches. Ono and Peyrebonne claimed an 8-2 win on Court 3 to send the Pirates to singles play down 2-1.

After Bakersfield took the No. 1 singles contest, Peyrebonne kept VC on pace with a 6-4, 6-2 victory on Court 4. Ariitea Cotti-Helme won in the No. 6 slot, 6-2, 7-5, to even the match at 3-3 before BC claimed No. 2 singles to put the Pirates' backs against the wall. Yanis Guerrout kept Ventura in the game, coming from behind to win at No. 5, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-4.

Unfortunately, The Pirates were not able to complete the comeback, falling in No. 3 singles in five sets.

With the setback, VC is 13-8 overall and 4-1 in WSC play. The Pirates are now tied with the Renegades in the conference standings with one match left for each team. Bakersfield will play Santa Barbara on Thursday Mar. 26 and Ventura plays at Glendale on the same day.
