VC Holds Off Renegades, 5-4
The Pirate softball team traveled to Bakersfield in between rain storms for a contest Thursday, and came away from Bakersfield with a 5-4 victory over the Renegades. Down 2-1 after four innings, VC (6-1-1) rallied for one in the fifth and two in the seventh before limiting Bakersfield to two runs in the seventh to preserve the victory. Alex Thorp was 3-4 with two RBI and also pitched for the win, scattering nine hits while striking out two. Julia Garcia had a home run with two RBI and she also scored twice while Ashley Thorp had a hit and an RBI.

Ventura, will open Western State Conference Gold Division play at Cuesta on Thursday March 6, followed by a trip to San Diego on Saturday March 8 to take on San Diego City College and Long Beach City College.
