Softball Splits Twin Bill With Moorpark in Home Opener

Playing at home for the first time this season after seven games on the road, the Pirate softball team split a double header against visiting Moorpark on Tuesday afternoon. VC (5-4, 2-1) fell 5-3 in the first game before defeating the Raiders 7-6 in eight innings in the nightcap. Brittany Perez had three hits on the day, including a home run and a triple, and Julianne Abeloe was 4-4 in game two with the game-winning RBI. 

Ventura 3, Moorpark 5
The Pirates dropped the first game of the double header 5-3.  The Raiders went ahead 4-0 after 3.5 innings before VC closed the gap with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Ventura scored another run in the sixth, but Moorpark added an insurance run in the top of the seventh.

Perez was 2-3 at the plate with a home run and one RBI. Christina Hart was 2-3 with two triples and two RBI and  Justine De La Rosa was 2-3 with one triple.

Ventura 7, Moorpark 6
Ventura held off Moorpark to take game two of the twin bill. The Pirates jumped out to an early 4-0 advantage in the first inning, and led 5-1 after four. MC tied the score with four runs in the top of the fifth inning, and took a 6-5 lead in the sixth.  Ventura tied the game in the bottom half of the sixth inning, and won it with a walk off in the eighth.

Abeloe had a perfect day at the plate, knocking out four hits, including the game-winner. Celeste Ekman was 2-4 with a double and Perez was 1-3 with a triple and two RBI. Breana Betancourt was also 1-3 with a double and an RBI.

Ventura next hosts Los Angeles Mission College for two on Thursday March 2. Game times are scheduled for 12:00 and 2:00 pm at the VC Softball Complex.
