After a dominant 14-1 2023 Western State Conference North Division season, the Pirate softball team had nine players selected All-WSC, as named by the conference coaches. Ashlyn Flinchum and Lauren Albrent headlined the awards winning Pitcher of the Year and Player of the Year, respectively, while Isabella Ayala, Isabel Gallegos, Ahlyssa Guzman and Jocelyn Ortega joined them on the first team All-WSC list.

Playing in the second round of the playoffs for th3e second time in program history, the Pirate softball team dropped the first game of the best-of-three set at Cypress Friday afternoon, 4-0. Ciana Garcia recorded two of VC's three hits, and Isabel Gallegos had the other as Ventura (31-9-1) was limited to four baserunners in the game. Ashlyn Flinchum struck out eight Chargers, but allowed four runs, three earned, in the complete game setback.

With their backs against the wall, the Pirate softball team won a thriller in Game 2 Saturday against El Camino, 3-2, before hitting the gas pedal in the nightcap, advancing to the Super regionals with a 13-0 triumph over the Warriors. Ventura (31-8-1) was carried on the mound by All-State pitcher Ashlyn Flinchum who went the distance in both games help secure the sweep.

In the playoffs, the margin for error decreases for all team involved. The Pirate softball team learned that lesson the hard way Friday in their 3-1 setback against El Camino in Game 1 of the Southern California Regional Playoffs at the VC Softball Complex. All-State pitcher Ashlyn Flinchum had a solid game in the circle, giving up four hits and one earned run in the game, but two errors and two unearned runs in the Warriors' three-run fourth inning proved to be the difference for Ventura.

Six days ago, the Pirate softball team suffered their only Western State Conference loss at home against Hancock. Ventura returned the favor and then some Tuesday afternoon in Santa Maria, pounding the Bulldogs 13-2 in the regular season finale. Ashlyn Flinchum allowed two hits and two runs while adding to her state-leading strikeout total with six K's. Offensively, Isabella Ayala had three hits, including two extra base knocks, while scoring twice with four runs batted in for VC (29-7-1, 14-1).

VC sophomore Lauren Albrent blasted a three-run home run and had four runs batted in overall as the Pirate softball team cruised to a 6-1 win at Pasadena Monday in a non-conference make-up game. Ciana garcia was 4-4 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI while Ashlyn Flinchum gave up three hits and one run while striking out nine to pick up the complete-game win.

The Pirates celebrated their Western State Conference title, clinched earlier this week, on sophomore day at the VC Softball Complex with an 8-0 run-rule win over Los Angeles Pierce. Lauren Albrent finished a double away from the cycle with three hits, including a rare out-of-the-park home run, and five runs batted in to lead VC (27-7-1, 13-1). Ahlyssa Guzman had a pair of hits, including a double, and three runs scored and Ashlyn Flinchum recorded K's on 10 of her 12 outs in four innings in the circle.

Behind another strong performance by sophomore pitcher Ashlyn Flinchum, the VC softball team shut out Santa Barbara 8-0 Tuesday. The Pirate win combined with a Hancock loss clinched outright the Western State Conference title for Ventura (26-6-1, 12-0). Flinchum allowed three hits and struck out 11 from the circle for the win and Ciana Garcia had three hits, including a double, with a run scored and a run batted in. Lauren Albrent chipped in a triple and a walk with two runs scored and three RBI.

The SoCal No. 5-ranked VC softball team split a pair of non-conference games Sunday, defeating East Los Angeles 6-1 before falling to No. 4 Fullerton 1-0 in games in Monterey Park. Isabella Ayala had three hits on the day, two doubles, with a run batted in while Isabel Gallegos also recorded three hits, scoring twice with an RBI. Morgan Albertsen pitched a complete game for the win against ELAC while Ashlyn Flinchum struck out six Hornets and allowed one run in taking the hard-luck loss to Fullerton.

Ashlyn Flinchum struck out seven Vaqueros and scattered four hits over seven innings to pick up the complete-game victory for the state No. 11-ranked Pirates (23-5-1, 11-0).

Isabella Ayala had a key double in VC's six-run fourth inning, knocking in three runs in the game while Isabel Gallegos knocked out a home run against the Raiders. Morgan Albertsen had a pair of hits with a run scored and Lauren Albrent scored twice in the triumph. Ashlyn Flinchum struck out six in the circle for the complete-game win.

But that was enough to score one run as Ashlyn Flinchum outdueled her counterpart by yielding just one hit in Ventura's 1-0 win over the Cougars at the VC Softball Complex. Ahlyssa Guzman singled and scored while Isabella Ayala knocked in the game's only run with another base hit. Flinchum struck out 10 and walked one in her complete game shutout.

Ciana Garcia had three hits, including a double, two runs scored and two runs batted in against El Camino and Jocelyn Ortega had a single and a double with two RBI and a run scored in the nightcap.

Mia Guerrero pitched two innings and Morgan Albertsen threw three in the shutout of the Brahmas. Lauren Albrent led the offense with a 23-4 day including a double and a triple with four runs batted in and three runs scored.

Lauren Albrent had two hits with a run scored and an RBI while Flinchum contributed two hits and a run scored to the effort.

After a rare 11-day break in the middle of the season due to an off week and rainouts, the Pirates' softball team returned to action on Monday, posting a 12-2 five-inning victory at Citrus College Monday in Glendora. Lauren Albrent had four hits, including two home runs, and five runs batted in to power the offense while Ashlyn Flinchum had a pair of hits, including a double, with two RBI. Flinchum also struck out six while yielding one earned run in the mercy-rule victory.

The Pirate softball team scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning Thursday to propel VC to a 9-6 win at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo. Ashlyn Flinchum had the game-winning hit, a single that scored Isabel Gallegos to begin the three-run rally. Flinchum also did the job in the pitcher's circle, throwing a complete game while striking out seven Cougars and giving up six runs, three earned.

Ashlyn Flinchum pitched a complete game, allowing just three hits and two earned runs while fanning 11 Bulldogs to secure the victory for VC (14-2-1, 5-0).

Ventura pitcher Ashlyn Flinchum lived on the edge all afternoon Friday, only allowing one hit, but yielding five walks to visiting Santa Barbara. She and the Pirate softball team shut-out the Vaqueros, however, in their 1-0 victory at the VC Softball Complex. Isabel Gallegos produced the game-winning hit for the Pirates, an RBI single to knock in Lauren Albrent in the bottom of the fifth, for the narrow victory for the Pirates (13-2-1, 4-0).

Isabel Gallegos had two hits, including a triple, and three runs batted in while Ciana Garcia recorded a pair of hits with two runs scored to lead the offense for Ventura (12-2-1, 3-0) in their first action in over a week due to the recent rains.

Morgan Albertsen pitched the opener, scattering six hits and allowing one run with seven strikeouts. Mia Guerrero took to the circle in the nightcap, giving up five hits with five K's in the shutout.

Ventura College pitchers Ashlyn Flinchum did the job with her arm and her bat on Friday. The sophomore threw seven innings, scattered three hits and struck out seven, allowing one run in the complete game against Cerritos at the VC Softball Complex. She also hit an RBI double in the bottom of the second inning to help propel the Pirates to a 2-1 win over the Falcons. Isabel Gallegos had an RBI single in the third to provide VC (7-2-1) with the eventual game-winner.

Lauren Albrent had four hits on the day with four runs scored and five runs batted in while Ciana Garcia also belted out four hits with a pair of runs scored. Morgan Albertsen pitched the final 10 innings in game one to pick up the victory for VC (5-1-1).

The Ventura College softball team opened its 2023 season Friday with a tie and a win at the Glendale Tournament. The Pirates played Sacramento to a 5-5 draw before running out of time, then defeated LA Valley 10-4 in two morning games. Isabel Gallegos smacked four hits on the day with a pair of home runs and three runs batted in while Lauren Albrent recorded three hits with a double and a homer in the two games.
