2024 Ventura College Softball Team News
The Ventura College Athletic Department claimed its 14th Top-13 finish in 19 years, placing 13th in California in the 2023-24 all-sports National Association of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) Cup standings. Pirate Athletics totaled 106 points overall, besting its 105.5 points earned in 2022-23 that placed 12th. Ventura was also 17th for the second straight year in the Daktronics Cup Standings with two-years schools from California, Oregon and Washington.
The Ventura College Athletic Department is proud to announce the transfer of 71 student athletes to four-year schools following their time with the Pirates. 48 of those transfers plan to continue their sport with 34 earning athletic scholarships. The VC class of 2024 will transfer to 48 different schools in 19 different states across the country. Additionally, 17 of the Pirate alumni have earned academic scholarships at their new schools.
Pirate freshmen Savanna Higgins and Jennie Jacinto have both been named All-Western State Conference by in voting by the WSC North Division softball coaches following the 2024 regular season. Higgins earned first team all-WSC honors while Jacinto was named second team all-conference.
The Pirate softball team closed he 2024 season with a bang, posting a 14-3 triumph at Santa Monica Tuesday afternoon. Savanna Higgins had a double and a triple with a run scored and two runs batted in and Jennie Jacinto had three hits and a walk with one RBI and three runs scored. Chelsea Trejo allowed three runs, one earned, over seven innings worked in the pitcher's circle for Ventura, who finished the season with seven wins in their final 13 games.
The VC softball team scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh and had the potential game-tying run at the plate with no outs before falling to Allan Hancock 6-4 Thursday in their 2024 home finale. Haylie Lopez had a pair of hits, including a two-RBI single in the final at-bat to lead Ventura. Chelsea Trejo and Jennie Jacinto also recorded two hits each in the setback.
The Ventura College softball team captured a 4-2 victory at Oxnard on Tuesday, sweeping the season series against the Condors. Jennie Jacinto led the way with a pair of hits, a stolen base and two runs scored while Savanna Higgins was 2-3 with a sacrifice fly, one run scored and one run batted in. Chelsea Trejo went the distance in the pitcher's circle to pick up the win for the Pirates.
The Pirate softball team dropped an 8-0 decision to Moorpark Thursday in Western State Conference play at the VC Softball Complex. Savanna Higgins, Chelsea Trejo and Kiara Harrison all recorded hits for Ventura in the setback.
The Pirate softball team traveled to San Luis Obispo Tuesday, dropping an 11-3 decision to host Cuesta in Western State Conference play. Alyssa Jacinto had a pair of hits and two runs batted in for VC and Chelsea Trejo also recorded two hits, including a double, with an RBI.
The VC softball team continued their roll Friday with a 15-5 six-inning win at Los Angeles Valley, the Pirates' fifth win in their past seven games. Victoria Rodrigues came on as a pinch hitter in the top of the sixth and had two hits and three runs batted in while Savannah Higgins recorded two hits, including a home run, with three runs scored and three RBI.
The Ventura College softball team raced to a 13-0 five-inning victory over Los Angeles Pierce Thursday at the VC Softball Complex. Jennie Jacinto had three hits, including a double, and scored twice and Kaliona Hernandez recorded a pair of hits with two runs scored. Alyssa Jacinto also had a pair of hits and a run batted in while Kiara Harrison totaled three RBI in the game on two hits while scoring a pair of runs. Chelsea Trejo hit a two-run home run and also pitched a complete game to pick up the win.
The Ventura College softball team kept the game close Tuesday, but could not get anything going offensively in their 4-0 setback against Santa Barbara at the VC Softball Complex. Alexyss Campos and Chelsea Trejo each had hits for the Pirates Trejo also had a solid pitching effort, scattering nine hits over seven innings in keeping VC close to the Vaqueros.

Savanna Higgins had a great day leading the Pirate softball team to an 8-5 victory over visiting Chaffey Wednesday. The VC shortstop was 2-4 with an RBI single and a 3-run home run in back-to-back innings to lead Ventura to the triumph. Pitcher Chelsea Trejo navigated through a 15-hit Chaffey offensive attack, allowing five runs to pick up the win in the circle.
The Pirate softball team dropped a 9-1 decision at Allan Hancock Tuesday in Santa Maria. Six players all had one hit each for Ventura with Jennie Jacinto knocking in Haylie Lopez for VC's lone run.
