Baylany Magana Leads Five Pirates on All-WSC Team
Ventura College frishman Baylany Magana was named the Western State Conference North Division Pitcher of the Year in voting by the conference coaches following the 2025 season. She is joined on the first team All-WSC squad by sophomores Jennie Jacinto, Savanna Higgins and Bryanne Magana as well as freshman Madison Shay. VC's first-year head coach Julia Tamai was named WSC North Coach of the Year for leading the Pirates to the conference title.

Baylany, an Oxnard High School product, led VC with a 2.32 earned run average over 117.2 innings pitched during the season. She recorded 14 complete games in the circle and appeared in 22 games overall with 20 starts. She also posted a 13-6 overall record with a 1.22 WHIP. Additionally, Baylany led the Pirates at the plate with a .455 batting average, scoring a team-best 45 runs in 123 at bats. She was successful stealing 17 bases, also a team-high, with 56 hits on the year.
Shay, meanwhile, provided power to the line-up, belting five home runs en route to a .421/.462/.702 slash line. The Buena High School graduate had 51 hits and 41 runs batted in in 35 games for Ventura. She also had a .931 fielding percentage at shortstop for VC.
Higgins, a first team All-WSC honoree as a freshman, hit .407 at the plate with a .663 slugging percentage. She had 12 extra-base hits on the year with 24 RBI and 32 runs scored. Additionally, Higgins, a Ventura High School product, posted a .987 fielding percentage from third base.
Jacinto, a mainstay in the line-up for two seasons, recorded 40 RBI with 14 extra-base hits. The Buena High alumna was the fourth Pirate to hit over .400 with a .406 mark. She also captured 12 stolen bases. Jacinto anchored the Pirate defense from her catcher spot with a .985 fielding percentage.
VC's fifth member of the first team All-WSC group was sophomore Bryanne Magana. Also an Oxnard High School alumna, Bryanne hit .344 while playing outfield and pitcher. She has 11 extra-base hits and recorded 19 RBI. In the field she pitched 81 innings with a 3.54 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP while going 8-3. She also posted a .963 fielding percentage defensively.
Tamai, the Pirates' first-year head coach, earned the conference Coach of the Year honor after leading VC to the championship with a 12-2 WSC mark. Overall, Ventura was 27-10 and earned the No. 15-seed in the Southern California Regionals. VC defeated Chaffey in the first round of the post-season before being swept at No. 2 Cypress.
