Softball Opens Season at Mt. SAC
The VC softball team opened their 2026 campaign Friday and Saturday at Mt. San Antonio, battling Fullerton and Los Angeles Mission to 4-3 and 4-0 setbakcs on opening day, respectively, before falling to the host Mounties Saturday. Erika Sanchez totaled five hits and three runs batted in for the Pirates over the three games and Baylany Magana scored three runs.

Erika Sanchez totaled five hits and three runs batted in for the Pirates over the three games and Baylany Magana scored three runs.
Ventura 3, Fullerton 4
In Friday's opener, the Pirates dropped a 4-3 decision against Fullerton. Ventura scored one run in the bottom of the first inning before yielding a score in the top of the third and three more in the fourth. VC rallied for a pair of runs in the sixth but it was not enough to overtake the Hornets.
Samantha Soto totaled two hits, including an RBI double, and Sanchez also had a pair of hits with a run batted in for Ventura. Zayra Landeros hit an RBI single while Sophia Valencia knocked out a single and scored a run. Layah Hicks also had a hit for the Pirates and Magana walked and scored and Paisley Magdaleno also plated a score.
Emma Estrella struck out eight batters in her Pirate debut, pitching seven innings while giving up four earned runs.
Ventura 0, LA Mission 4
The Pirates ran into a buzzsaw against the Eagles, managing just two hits, one each from Landeros and Sanchez, and reaching base on an error for their only baserunners of the game.
Magana struck out a pair of batters over six innings giving up four earned runs in the setback.
Ventura 3, Mt. San Antonio 11
After VC took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, and held a 3-2 advantage after the in the top of the third, the Mt. SAC scored five in the third and four in the sixth to defeat the Pirates.
Sanchez had two hits with an RBI and a run scored and Magana also hit a single and scored two runs. Magdaleno had the other hit for VC.
Estrella started in the pitcher's circle for the Pirates and Magana came on in relief.
The Pirates will next travel to LA Mission for a game-two rematch against the Eagles on Thursday Jan. 29. First pitch in Sylmar is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
