VC Softball Opens Conference with Run-Rule Victory
The Ventura College softball team opened Western State Conference play Thursday with an 11-1 six-inning victory at Santa Monica. Erika Sanchez had a single and a double , knocking in four runs for the Pirates while Baylany Magana knocked out a pair of hits with two RBI. Magana also shut down the Corsair offense from the pitcher's circle, limiting SMC to two hits in the complete game win.

The Pirates scored early and often, plating two runs in the top of the first inning, three runs in the second and another in the third.
SMC recorded both their hits in the bottom of the first, scoring their only run of the game.
Ventura ended the game early with a five-run sixth inning.
Sanchez led the offensive attack with a single and a double and four RBI. She knocked in two runs with her first-inning single then pushed two more runs home in the sixth with a double down the right field line.
Magana also recorded a pair of hits with two RBI and Sophia Valencia had a pair of base hits with a run batted in. Samantha Soto and Layah Hicks each scored twice for the Pirates as seven other batters all scored once.
Magana settled in after the opening frame, limiting the Corsairs to their two first inning hits, striking out seven batters in the game while walking just one batter.
Ventura next hosts San Bernardino Valley for a double-header on Friday March 6, with the first game starting at 1:00 pm at the VC Softball Complex.
