Ongstad Claims County Sports Hall of Fame Award

Pirate swimmer Mitchell Ongstad has added another award to his list of accolades for his performance in the 2015 season. On Sunday he was named the Ventura County Male Collegiate Athlete of the Year at the Ventura County Sports Hall of Fame Banquet on Sunday.

Pirate sophomore Mitchell Ongstad closed his career with another gold medal performance in the 100-yard freestyle, earning co-Athlete of the Year honors on the final day of the CCCAA State Swimmimng Championships Saturday at East Los Angeles College.

Pirate sophomore Mitchell Ongstad closed his career with another gold medal performance in the 100-yard freestyle, earning co-Athlete of the Year honors on the final day of the CCCAA State Swimmimng Championships Saturday at East Los Angeles College. The Pirate men finished sixth as a team overall.

Freshman Delani Clark got the VC women on the board at the CCCAA State Championships Friday with her eighth place finish in the 400-yard individual medley.
Ongstad Adds to Medal Haul; VC Women on the Board at State

Mitchell Ongstad added a silver medal to his collection Friday at the CCCAA State Championships with a runner-up finish in the 100-yard backstroke. The Pirate men were in sixth place following the day's events with one day remaining at the season finale. The VC women, meanwhile, got on the board with a swim by Delani Clark.

VC sophomore Mitchell Ongstad swam 20.25 in the 50-yard freestyle at the CCCAA State Championships to claim the state title in the event.  VC's men are in fifth place overall after day one of the three-day event at East Los Angeles College.

Pirate sophomore Mitchell Ongstad swam the 50-yard freestyle Thursday with a time of 20.25 to claim the state title in the event Thursday at the CCCAA State Championships at East Los Angeles College. As a team, the VC men were in fifth place overall after one day of competition in the three-day event.

The VC men's swim team claimed the program's 26th overall Western State Conference championship Saturday at the Ventura Aquatic Center while the Pirate women finished a strong third in their 10 team field.
Pirate Men Claim WSC Title; Women Finish Strong Third

Behind Western State Conference Male Athlete of the Year Mitchell Ongstad, who won his third individual event in three days, the Pirates' men's swim team claimed the WSC championship Saturday on the final day of the conference meet at the Ventura Aquatic Center. Marcus Rodarte and Chris Sands also brought home individual golds for the VC men. Meanwhile the Ventura women came in a strong third in the WSC championships.

Raquel Rodriguez picked up the Pirate women's best finish of the WSC Championships Friday, placing second in the 100-yard backstroke, half a second off of first place.
Pirate Men Strengthen Lead, Women Remain Third at WSC Finals

The Ventura College men's swim team extended its lead at the Western State Conference Championships on day two of the three-day event at the Ventura Aquatic Center Friday while the Pirate women remained in third place. VC's men won both relays and captured three more individual golds, putting them in a strong position for the title heading into Saturday's final day of competition.

Pirate Men First, Women Third After Day 1 of WSC Championships

The Ventura College men's swim team held a solid lead after the first day of the three-day Western State Conference Championships hosted by VC at the Ventura Aquatic Center. The Pirate women, meanwhile, were in third place after one day of competition.

The VC men placed first and the women were second at the WSC meet at Santa Barbara on Saturday.

The Ventura College swim teams continued their strong season as the Pirate men were first, and the women second at the Western State Conference meet at Santa Barbara on Saturday. Cheyanne Irogoyen led the women with first and third place finishes while the men had four double-winners, Chris Sands, Austin Hammonds, Mitchell Ongstad and Marcus Rodarte.

The Pirates' men's swim team finished fin first place of three teams, while the women were third of five competing teams Saturday at the Western State Conference meet at Allan Hancock College. Marcus Rodarte and Mitchell Ongstad each posted a pair of individual golds for VC.

VC sophomore Mitchell Ongstad broke out with three individual golds Friday and Saturday at the highly competitive Cuesta Invitational in San Luis Obispo. The Ventura men placed second in the 15-team event while the Pirate women came in seventh. Raquel Rodriguez led the efforts for the Ventura women.

Pirate swimmers had their first competitive races of 2015 at the WSC event hosted by College of the Canyons Friday.
Pirate Swimmers Open at WSC Meet at Canyons

The Ventura College men's and women's swim teams opened up their 2015 competition schedule at the Western State Conference meet hosted by College of the canyons at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center Friday. VC produced three double winners in the meet, Delaney Clark for the women and Mitchell Ongstad and Austin Hammond for the men.
