Four Pirate women competed at the CCCAA State Swimming and Diving Championships Thursday through Saturday at East Los Angeles College. The quartet of Allison Harris, Grace Given, Shelby Jackson and Lauren Pierce earned a total of 43 points for VC, good for a tie for 21st place overall among 39 scoring teams.
The Ventura College women's swimming and diving team finished third in the 10-team Western State Conference Championships concluded Saturday at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo. The Pirate men, meanwhile, finished fifth of nine competing schools at the three-day meet. Grace Given and Shebly Jackson led the Pirates' efforts in the pool for the women while Collin Spargur and Mattia Braccini led the men. Braccini was named the conference's male diver of the year.
The Ventura College men's and women's swimmers traveled to Sacramento to compete at the American River College Pentathlon on Friday. Collin Spargur led the effort on the men's side with his best effort in the 50-yard freestlye while Shelby Jackson led the VC women earning her best finish in the 100-yard butterfly.
The VC women's and men's swimming and diving teams finished fourth and sixth, respectively, at the second Western State Conference meet of the season at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo Saturday. Lauren Pierce claimed gold in the 1m diving and Allison Harris won the 3m diving for the women while Michael Andrews led the Pirate men winning both the 1m and 3m diving events.
The VC men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed at the three-day Mt. San Antonio Invitational Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Walnut. The Pirate men finished fourth out of 15 competing teams while the Ventura women were eighth of 19 teams. Grace Given earned the Pirates' lone gold medal of the meet and earned points in two more individual events while Shelby Jackson placed in six events. Meanwhile, Mattia Braccini and Zane Hermann placed in four events for VC.
The Pirates' men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened the 2022 season Friday at the Western State Conference Larry Baratte Invitational at the Ventura Aquatic Center. Ventura's squads placed a combined fourth place of the nine competing teams in the meet named for VC Hall of Fame coach Larry Baratte, who passed away last year. Diver Michael Andrews won the men's 1m diving competition and the men's 200-yard freestyle relay team also claimed gold.
