VC Women 3rd, Men 5th at WSC Championships

The Ventura College women's swimming and diving team finished third in the 10-team Western State Conference Championships concluded Saturday at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo. The Pirate men, meanwhile, finished fifth of nine competing schools at the three-day meet. Grace Given and Shebly Jackson led the Pirates' efforts in the pool for the women while Collin Spargur and Mattia Braccini led the men. Braccini was named the conference's male diver of the year.

VC diver Michael Andrews won the 1m diving event Friday at the Western State Conference No. 3 meet at the Ventura Aquatic Center and claimed bronze in the 3m event to help the Ventura men to a second place finish as a team in the five-team contest.

Michael Andrews won the 1m diving competition and Janson Cunningham claimed gold in the 3m diving event to lead the Pirate men to a second place finish at the Western State Conference No. 3 meet at the Ventura Aquatic Center Friday. Meanwhile Lauren Pierce and Allison Harris each won a silver and a bronze in diving to lead the Ventura women at the five-team meet.

Pirate Swim & Dive Teams Compete at Mt. SAC Invitational

The VC men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed at the three-day Mt. San Antonio Invitational Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Walnut. The Pirate men finished fourth out of 15 competing teams while the Ventura women were eighth of 19 teams. Grace Given earned the Pirates' lone gold medal of the meet and earned points in two more individual events while Shelby Jackson placed in six events. Meanwhile, Mattia Braccini and Zane Hermann placed in four events for VC.
