Ventura Competes in WSC #1 Meet at LA Valley

The VC men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in the first Western State Conference meet of the season at Los Angeles Valley College Thursday with the men tying for second out of 4 teams and the women coming in fourth of the five teams participating. Colin Spargur led the Pirate men with an individual gold and was part of a the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team. Allison Harris led the women with a pair of silver medal performances in the 1m and 3m diving events, respectfully.

The VC men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in the first Western State Conference meet of the season at Los Angeles Valley College Thursday with the men tying for second out of 4 teams and the women coming in fourth of the five teams participating. Collin Spargur led the Pirate men with an individual gold and was part of a the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team. Allison Harris led the women with a pair of silver medal performances in the 1m and 3m diving events, respectfully.

Spargur swam the 50-yard freestyle in 22.36 to claim first place while the team of Zane Hermann, Mattia Braccini, Janson Cunningham and Spargur touched in first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a mark of 1:32.6.  Michael Andrews also had a first place finish in the 1m diving event with a score of 147.52.

Spargur, Brayden Lauritzen, Braccini and Hermann also came in second in the 200-yard medley relay.

Hermann sandwiched his relay performances with a second-place finish in the 100-yard free while Cunningham came in fourth in the 1m diving event and fifth in the 100-yard freestyle. Andrews swam third in the 1000-yard freestyle and Lauritzen was second in the 200-yard individual medley and second in the 100-yard breast stroke. Braccini also finished third in the 1m diving contest.

George Bonilla touched in fourth place in the 200-yard IM and Nathan Willeford came in one spot later. Willeford also finished ninth in the 100-yard breast stroke.Benjamin Sweet was fifth in the 100-yard backstroke for the Pirates and 10th in the 50-yard free. Sebastian Ayala came in fifth in the 100-yard butterfly.

Harris had the best finish of the day for the VC women with her second-place performances in the 1m and 3m diving, respectively, and Megan Findlay was third in the 50-yard freestyle and fourth in the 100-yard butterfly. Lauren Pierce placed third in the 1m diving event and came in 10th in the 50-yard free. Analee Magana came in ninth in the 100-yard freestyle.

Ventura next competes in the Mt. San Antonio Invitational Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24-26.
