Track & Field Completes Season at WSC Championships

The lifetime bests kept pouring in on a hot day in Bakersfield for the Ventura College track and field teams at the Western State Conference Championships on Friday. Charlotte Allison claimed first place in the triple jump on Friday to go along with her high jump gold from a week ago, and she teamed up with Gillian Serate, Ariana Vera and Aubrianna Smith to win the 4x100m relay. Pierson Reynolds won the men's 800m run while Jaedon Rogers triumphed in the triple jump for the Pirates at the championships. 

Allison (La Reina) concluded her freshmen Covid season with an individual title in the triple jump, spanning 34'11", good for the No. 6 spot all-time in VC history. Her 5'6" high jump performance last week, also a gold medal performance, ranks at No. 2 in the school record books. Meanwhile, the 4x100 relay team of Serate, Vera, Smith, and Allison took the gold in 50.19 moving them to 11th all-time for the Pirates.

Smith (Foothill Tech) ran a personal best in the 100m to take silver, securing her spot as No. 6 all time for VC while Vera (Rio Mesa) took third in the 200m, moving to 15th all-time. Serate (Pacifica) was third in the triple jump. 

Gisele Ortega (St.Bonaventure) won bronze in the women's 1500m while teammate Cristina Cortes (Oxnard) took 5th in the 800m. Kailey Case (Camarillo) was third in the 400m hurdles and fourth in the 100m hurdles. Ortega, Cortes, Vera, and Smith were fourth in the women's 4x400m relay.

In the throws, Denise Cardona (Pacifica) was 11th in the shot put for the VC women. 

Rogers (Rio Mesa) jumped a lifetime best in the triple jump to take gold with a jump of 45'5", moving him to No. 16 all-time at VC. Reynolds (Buena) was the 800m champion, running 1:59.03 moving him to No. 25 all-time. Teammate Noah Castro (Channel Islands) finished fifth in the 800.

Tristan Brown (Hueneme) cam in eighth in the 100m while Michael Sanchez (Foothill Tech) was sixth in the 5k. Sahit Jimenez (Santa Paula) finished ninth in the 1500m. The relay team of Angel Gomez, Reynolds, Gabriel Olivares, and Castro finished third in the 4x400m relay.

Christian Cook (Rio Mesa) was 15th in the shot put and teammate Yoy Vasquez (Pacifica) was 18th.

"All of our athletes competed at a high level when it mattered most," said head coach Tom Czerwinski. "We had many personal bests, and we could not be more proud of our team and the way they performed. They've endured so much this year with cancelations, restrictions, testing, protocols, etc. Despite everything, they finished their season strong, and set a foundation for the future of this program."
