Pirates Host Track & Field Invitational
The VC men's and women's track and field teams hosted the Pirate Invitational Friday at the Sportsplex posting a number of solid performances. Max Daniel earned Ventura's lone gold medal in the 200m sprint while Daniel, and Aaron Giron won silver in the 100m and 110m hurdles events. Brianna Richards led the VC women with a pair of runner-up finishes in the 800m and 1500m races.

Max Daniel earned Ventura's lone gold medal in the 200m sprint while Daniel, and Aaron Giron won silver in the 100m and 110m hurdles events. Brianna Richards led the VC women with a pair of runner-up finishes in the 800m and 1500m races.
Daniel ran a 22.20 to claim victory in the 200m and posted a 10.97 in the 100m to finish second in the 100m by .05 seconds. Meanwhile Giron ran a 17.14 to claim the runner up in the 110m hurdles. He also came in sixth in the 400m hurdles race.
Ty Brown claimed a pair of third-place finishes in the 110m hurdles and 400m hurdles and also placed 10th in the long jump. Caleb Strencha was third in the high jump. Mateo Chavez earned the bronze in the discus while finishing eighth in the shot put and ninth in the javelin.
Jeremiah Penny posted fourth place finishes in the 100m and 200m races while Makaio Thompson was fifth in the 100m and 12th in the 200m. Zac Crist produced fifth-place performances in both the long jump and triple jump events.
Henry Fulk finished fifth in the 5000m run while Nathaniel Lopez and Marcelo Mendoza ran ninth and 10th in the same event, respectively. Julian Arenas came in seventh in the 1500m while teammate Carmelo Betanzos was 11th. Abraham Salinas placed 11th in the shot put for the VC men.
Richards paced the VC women, running a 2:27.76 in the 800m and a 4:52.84 in the 1500m to claim second in both races.
Kelsey Crist was seventh in the 100m and seventh in the long jump while Avery Wells was 10th in the 100m. Leia Ludy finished sixth in the 100m hurdles and 11th in the 100m and Jessica Davison came in eighth in the 100m hurdles.
Alyna Renteria placed in four field events, coming in fourth in the shot put and discus, sixth in the hammer and seventh in the javelin. Ariel Montejano was fifth in the javelin, eighth in the discus and ninth in the shot put.
The Pirates will next compete at the Henry Kirk Invitational at Allan Hancock COllege in Santa Maria on Friday March 6.
