Pirate Soccer falls in season opener
The Ventura College women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision against San Francisco Thursday on the first day o fthe New Balance Community College Showcase at the VC Sportsplex. Leslie Torres led the effore with a solid outing and one of the Pirates' two shots on goal in the season opener. Jazzy Moreno had the other shot on target for VC in the game.

Melanie Torres also had a pair of shots for the Pirates (0-1) and Monse Hernandez also played well for the orange and black.
San Francisco held a 1-0 lead at halftime after a goal in the 27th minute, and they also found the back of the net in the 50th and 73rd minutes, both on transition scores.
Ventura will conclude the New Balance Showcase on Saturday Aug. 30 at 4:00 pm hosting Mt. San Jacinto.
