It took all three sets and three hours and 22 minutes before Marika Sagara saw her championship aspirations come to an end. Despite a valiant effort, the Pirate freshman fell in the quarterfinals of the CCCAA State Championships at The Ojai Tournament Saturday.
VC freshman Mariko Sagara reached elite status Friday with a pair of wins in the CCCAA State Championships at The Ojai Tournament. With the two victories, the draw's No. 3-seed advanced to the Elite Eight round, with the quarterfinals scheduled for Saturday Apr. 23 at The Ojai Athleic Club.
No. 3-seed Mariko Sagara advanced to the round of 32 in singles play at the CCCAA State Tennis Championships at The Ojai Thursday. Meanwhile, she also teamed up with doubles partner Jessica Powell to move to the same level in doubles competition at the state championships.

Ventura College is set to host the 2016 Western State Conference Tennis Championships Friday April 1 and Saturday April 2, finishing up with men's ans women's singles and doubles championships on Friday April 8. Preliminary rounds on April 1 and 2 will be held at the Ventura College Tennis Center and at El Camino Real Park.
Playing host to Bakersfield College to wrap up their Western State Conference play the Ventura College women's tennis team picked up a 7-2 win. Mariko Sagara, Jessica Powell, Jia Wiebe and Theresa Doal were winners on the singles and doubles side of play. Wiebe allowed just two points in singles play.
The Ventura College women's tennis team hosted Santa Monica College and were winners 8-1. Ventura claimed all three sets of doubles play and won five of the six matches on the singles side. Jia Wiebe and Megan Fleming picked up wins on both the singles and doubles sides of play. Fleming won her singles match without dropping a point.

On a cool Saturday afternoon the Ventura College women's tennis team played a hotly contested match against San Diego Mesa scratching out a 5-4 win. Ventura rode the strong performances of Jia Wiebe and Megan Fleming who teamed up to win their No. 2 doubles match and then Wiebe earned a win at No. 3 singles. Theresa Doal was a winner in both doubles and singles play.
Traveling north to Santa Barbara the Ventura College women's tennis team fell 5-4 to SBCC in a WSC match up. Ventura was able to claim two of the three doubles matches. The No. 1 doubles of Mariko Sagara and Jessica Powell claimed a 8-5 win. Jia Wiebe and Megan Fleming were 9-8 winner at No. 2 doubles.
The Ventura College women's tennis team played host to Antelope Valley in a Western State Conference match up and picked up a 8-1 win. VC swept doubles play lead by the team of Mariko Sagara and Jessica Powell with an 8-1 win in No. 1 doubles. Jia Wiebe and Megan Fleming earned a 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles the team of Theresa Doal and Tricia McClain won by a score of 8-5.
Following a tough loss in their last match the Ventura College women's tennis team responded with a 6-3 win over Bakersfield College. Mariko Sagara remained undefeated in conference play with a straight sets win at No. 1 singles. Jessica Powell and Jia Wiebe were winners in both singles and doubles play.
Traveling to Orange County to take on Saddleback the Ventura College women's tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision. Mariko Sagara won at No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles for the Pirates. Jia Wiebe picked up a straight sets win at No. 3 singles.
The Ventura College women's tennis team travels to Santa Monica and scores a 6-3 win, their second Western State Conference win of the season. Theresa Doal was a winner at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. Mariko Sagara picked up wins at No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles. Sagara and Doal did not allow a point in singles play.
