Women's Tennis Victorious in Home Debut

The Pirates' women's tennis team made their 2021 debut at the VC Tennis Center on Thursday with an 8-1 victory over Antelope Valley. Alyssa McClain led the way with a love and one win at No. 3 singles after partnering with Tanya Thompson in an 8-2 triumph in No. 2 doubles. Erin Gaynor, Victoria Zegers, Isabella DeRosa and Dee Emami also claimed two points for the Pirates in the match.

McClain and Thompson led a Pirate sweep in doubles play with an 8-2 win at No. 2. DeRosa and Emami also won 8-2 in the No. 3 slot while Gaynor and Zegers claimed an 8-4 victory in No. 1 doubles.

VC's success continued in singles with McClain producing the most one-sided match of the day. DeRosa won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles and Emami prevailed 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5. Gaynor won her No. 1 singles match 6-1, 7-5 while Zegers came back after dropping the first set to win in a tie-breaker, 5-7, 6-3 (10-5) at No. 2.

The Pirates turn around quickly, traveling to Fresno on Friday April 30 to take on Modesto and Fresno City.
