Women's Tennis Falls to Santa Monica in Season Finale

The Ventura College women's tennis team dropped the finale of its Covid-shortened 2021 season 6-3 to visiting Santa Monica on Thursday at the VC Tennis Center. Isabella DeRosa was a double-winner on the day, claiming the No. 6 singles match and winning at No. 2 doubles with Alyssa McClain.

DeRosa and McClain won the No. 2 doubles match 8-4.  Victoria Zegers and Tanya Thompson prevailed at No. 3 doubles 8-6 and the Pirates led 2-1 heading to singles.

The Corsairs battled back, however, and VC only managed DeRosa's win at No. 6, 7-5, 6-0. Thompson lost a close match at No. 5, winning the first set 7-5 before falling in the second 6-2 and losing the tiebreaker 10-5. McClain also was close at No. 3, dropping the match 6--4, 6-4.

The Pirates end the season at 3-6, but a pair of those losses were to four year schools. And considering the Covid situation around at home and around the world, the Pirates returning to the court this spring was a huge victory in itself.
