Pirate Women Rebound With Win at Santa Monica
The VC women's tennis team bounced back Tuesday with a 6-3 win at Santa Monica. The Pirates had dropped their last three Western State Conference matches, two by 5-4 counts, before defeating the Corsairs. Kira Branson and Chandra Padua picked up a big doubles victory while Dulce Contreras and Isabella DeRosa were both double winners for VC.
The VC women's tennis team bounced back Tuesday with a 6-3 win at Santa Monica. The Pirates had dropped their last three Western State Conference matches, two by 5-4 counts, before defeating the Corsairs. Kira Branson and Chandra Padua picked up a big doubles victory while Dulce Contreras and Isabella DeRosa were both double winners for VC.
Branson and Padua started the day with a strong 8-6 win in No. 1 doubles. SMC rebounded to win on Court 3 before Contreras and DeRosa battled to a 9-8 (7-3) win in No. 2 doubles to give the Pirates a 2-1 edge.
The Corsairs captured the No. 2 singles match before Ella Morgan came back to win in No. 5 singles, 3-6, 6-0, 7-5. Branson dropped a three-set heartbreaker on Court 1, then Contreras earned a point with a hard fought 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) win in the No. 3 slot. DeRosa clinched the win for Ventura with a 6-1, 2-6, 7-5 thriller at No. 4 before Sherry Bonilla finished the day with a 6-3, 6-1 win on Court 6.
Ventura will next host Los Angeles Mission on Thursday March 5 at the VC Tennis Center.
