Volleyball drops home opener in battle of Pirates
The Ventrua Pirates returned to the Athletic Event Center for the first time this season, falling to the Orange Coast Pirates in four sets Firday evening, 25-15, 25-27, 25-14, 25-18. Addison Olson led the VC attack with 13 kills while Josephine Rausch had a double-double of 11 kills and 14 digs. Valaria Ibarra also recorded an In-N-Out special with 11 assists and 10 digs for Ventura (2-2).

Addison Olson led the VC attack with 13 kills while Josephine Rausch had a double-double of 11 kills and 14 digs. Valeria Ibarra also recorded an In-N-Out special with 11 assists and 10 digs for Ventura (2-2).
Orange Coast went on a 7-0 run in the first set to go ahead 16-8 en route to a 25-15 opening win.
VC came back strong in the second set. After falling behind 4-1, Ventura's Rausch had an ace and a kill to level the score at 6-6. Olson's block gave the VC Pirates a 10-8 edge and Callie Cahill ended a brief OCC lead with a winner for a 14-14 score. Daphne Raymond had a block at the net to keep the count even at 21 before Shai Daniels and Olson hit back-to-back winners to give Ventura the advantage. OCC managed to tie the score at 24, but VC came back to win the set 27-25.
Orange Coast came back to turn an 11-11 tie in the third set into a 25-14 win. OCC controlled the fourth set from the start, claiming a 25-18 clincher.
Daniels and Sadie Lishman totaled 22 and 16 digs, respectively, and Monaye Ramessar handed out 19 assists. Raymond and Taylor Lane each contributed seven blocks.
Ventura's difficult non-conference schedule continues on Wednesday Sept. 3 as the Pirates travel to San Diego Mesa.
