Volleyball sweeps past LA Pierce
The VC volleyball team easily swept past visiting Los Angeles Pierce Friday, 25-15, 25-11, 25-13. Daphne Raymond had eight kills with a .389 hitting percentage along wit hthree blocks and Josephone Rausch contributed nine winners and two blocks. Taylor Lane and Addison Olson recorded four and three blocks, respectively.

The Pirates (10-7, 3-3) took a quick 5-0 lead on Raush's first kill of the night. The Brahmas tied the opening set at 7-7 before VC began to assert control. Madison Mierau had her first winner of the evening for a 10-8 advantage and Rausch recorded two of three points for the 16-10 margin. Raymond and Olson each had blocks to help Ventura pull away and Callie Cahill's swing clinched the first set, 25-15.
VC slowly pulled away from Pierce n the second set. Mierau had a kill for a 6-4 advantage and Lane's winner expanded the margin to 10-5. Olson's block at the net made it 18-10 for the Pirates, leading to a Brahma timeout, and Cahill's winner pushed the lead to 20-11. Jocelyn Alfar had an insane save on a point for a 23-11 score and the Pirates took the second set two points later.
Mierau's ace in early in the third set put Ventura ahead 3-0 and Lane had another kill for a 10-5 count. Raymond's block doubled up LAPC, 12-6 and Rausch followed with two huge swings for back-to-back winners. The Pirates continued the roll throughout the remainder of the set, claiming the sweep 25-13 in the third.
Monaye Ramessar ended the game with 17 assists offensively and Valeria Ibarra handed out seven helpers. Ibarra, Alfar and Chelsea Torres led a balanced defensive effort with six digs each while Sadie Lishman recorded five digs.
Ventura begins the second round of Western State Conference play on Wednesday Oct. 22 hosting Cuesta at 6:00 pm.
