Pirates Take Two in Ventura Tournament
The VC women's water polo team won a pair of games Friday in their own tournament hosted at the Ventura Aquatic Center. The Pirates doubled up Modesto 18-9 in the morning match-up before defeating Pasadena 15-2 in the afternoon tilt. Julia Glukhovsky led the effort with 11 goals in the two matches while Abigail Humphry scored seven times. Parker Pratt recorded 18 saves in four quarters of action in the two games.

In the opener, the Pirates of the South took on the Pirates of the Central Valley, coming away with an 18-9 win. After falling behind 1-0 early, VC netted five unanswered goals, and eight of the next nine scores to take an 8-2 lead after one quarter of play. Glukhovsky was on fire in the first eight minutes of play with four of Ventura's eight goals.
Modesto scored four goals in the second quarter to pull to within 8-5 at intermission, but VC maintained control but outscoring Modesto 6-0 in the third stanza.
Glukhovsky totaled seven goals in the game and assisted on five more. She also grabbed two steals and drew six ejections to lead Ventura. Humphry found the inside of the cage five times and Pratt scored three times in the field and totaled 10 saves in the cage.
In the nightcap, the Pirates raced past Pasadena 15-2. VC scored the first nine goals of the contest and held a commanding 11-2 lead over the Lancers at intermission.
Glukhovsky led a balanced attack with four goals, three steals and four drawn ejections and Allie Costa-Schmitt netted three scores with two ED's. Humphry and Bella Bruno each found the inside of the cage twice against PCC. Pratt turned back eight shots in the cage for the Pirates in the win.
Ventura returns to action on Wednesday Oct. 15, resuming Western State Conferene play at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo.
