Pirate Cross Country teams open 2025 season
The VC men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2025 season at the Pirate Invitational at Arroyo Verde Park on Friday morning. Brianna Richards led a pair of VC women finishing third overall in the 5k race while Henry Fulk opened his Pirate career with a Top-10 finish in the men's 4-mile event. The Ventura men came in third as a team among the six competing squads.

Brianna Richards led a pair of VC women finishing third overall in the 5k race while Henry Fulk opened his Pirate career with a Top-10 finish. The Ventura men came in third as a team among the six competing squads.
Richards ran a strong race on the challenging course, crossing the finish line in 21:25. Natalie Kreil was the only other female competitor for the Pirates, finishing 24th of the 27 runners in 28:57.
Fulk broke the tape in 24:05 to finish 10th among 56 competitors. Aiden Plew and Marcelo Mendoza placed 16th and 17th, respectively with times of 24:51 and 25:10. Nathan Lopez was 21st in 25:33 and Julian Pachon finished 25th with a time of 25:48. Other Pirate runners included Carmelo Betanzos (36th, 27:14), Julian Arenas (37th, 27:20) and Santiago Gutierrez (52nd, 33:08).
VC totaled 75 points to finish third behind Glendale (27) and Long Beach (64) and ahead of El Camino (104), Citrus (125) and Cal Lutheran (131).
The Pirates' next outing will be at the Fresno Invitational on Saturday Sept. 6. The races at Woodward Park, home venue of the 3C2A State Championships, will begin at 8:00 am.
