The Ventura College beach volleyball team had four teams advance to the final eight after day one of the Western State Conference Pairs Championships in play Wednesday at the Harbor Cove Courts at the Ventura Marina. The Pirates No. 1 pair of Raphaella Rosales and Vanessa Ihrke led the way with a pair of easy wins, winning each of their four sets by at least nine points. The pairs of Morgan Gallagher and Jordan Neria, Shantalle Ruiz and Kasie Spencer, and Brooklyn Wallet and Faith Mackie also each posted two wins to move to Friday's final eight.

The VC beach volleyball team traveled to Santa Monica Friday for their final road trip of the regular season, taking on Santa Barbara and Glendale in Western State Conference competition. The Pirates (14-4, 10-0) easily dispatched of the competition, sweeping both Vaquero teams 5-0. In the first match against SBCC, Raphaella Rosales and Vanessa Ihrke allowed 15 points total in their straight-set win, while allowing just sight total points in their win against Glendale.

VC (12-4, 8-0) defeated Bakersfield 5-0 in the first match of the day before besting Santa Monica 4-1. The Pirates' beach volleyball team dropped two 5-0 decisions at the Ramon Calderon Cup at cal State Northridge. VC lost to the host NCAA Division I Matadors and also fell to Long Beach City College.
While the cold wind and rainy days are rare at the beach in Ventura, they do occasionally occur. When they do, the Pirates battle the elements along with their opponents, just as they did Friday to open the 2019 season. And the Ventura College beach volleyball team opened the year wit a pair of victories over visiting Bakersfield and Palomar at the Harbor Cove Courts at the Ventura Marina. VC (2-0) swept the Renegades 5-0 before edging the Comets 3-2.
