Rosales and Ihrke Qualify for State Beach VB Tournament

Ventura College's No. 1 beach volleyball duo of Raphaella Rosales and Vanessa Ihrke became just the fifth Pirate beach volleyball team to reach the state tournament Friday with a pair of wins at the CCCAA Southern California Regional pairs tournament at Irvine Valley College. They are the first to advance under the current format of regional play before state. The duo will be SoCal's No. 6-seeded pair heading into the CCCAA State Pairs Championships on Friday May 10 at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center outside of San Diego.

Beach Volleyball Team Season Ends in Playoffs

The No. 9-seeded Ventura College beach volleyball team traveled to El Cajon Tuesday to take on No. 1 Grossmont and No. 8 Mt. San Antonio in the CCCAA Southern California Regionals. Unfortunately, the Pirates' season came to an end with a pair of 5-0 losses to the Griffins and Mounties, respectively.

The Pirate beach volleyball team sent three pairs to the Southern California Regional pairs Tournament Friday on the final day of the Western State Conference Championships in Santa Monica. VC's Brooklyn Wallet and Faith Mackie advanced to the final match before falling in a three-set thriller. Meanwhile, Raphaella Rosales and Vanessa Ihrke claimed third place and Jordan Neria and Morgan Gallagher finished in fifth for the Pirates.

Four Beach Pairs Advance to WSC Final Eight

The Ventura College beach volleyball team had four teams advance to the final eight after day one of the Western State Conference Pairs Championships in play Wednesday at the Harbor Cove Courts at the Ventura Marina. The Pirates No. 1 pair of Raphaella Rosales and Vanessa Ihrke led the way with a pair of easy wins, winning each of their four sets by at least nine points. The pairs of Morgan Gallagher and Jordan Neria, Shantalle Ruiz and Kasie Spencer, and Brooklyn Wallet and Faith Mackie also each posted two wins to move to Friday's final eight.

The Ventura College beach volleyball team finished the regular season with a pair of wins Friday at the Harbor Cove Courts at the Ventura Marina, claiming the program's second Western State Conference championship in the last three years. VC blanked Victor Valley 5-0 in the morning match to clinch the crown before finishing off their undefeated conference docket with a 4-1 win over Moorpark. Brooklyn Wallet and Faith Mackie led the way with a pair of big wins, allowing 30 points in four sets of competition for the Pirates (16-4, 12-0).

The Pirates' beach volleyball team maintained its first place position in the Western State Conference standings with a pair of victories Friday at the Harbor Cove Courts at the Ventura Marina. VC (12-4, 8-0) defeated Bakersfield 5-0 in the first match of the day before besting Santa Monica 4-1. Shantalle Ruiz and Kasie Spencer led three duos in winning both matches on the day, a 21-19, 21-16 win over Bakersfield's No. 3 pair and a 21-6, 21-7 win over Santa Monica's No. 3 team.

The VC beach volleyball team completes the first round of Western State Conference play Friday with two victories over Santa Monica and Santa Barbara, respectively, in play at Cal State Bakersfield. The Pirates defeated the Corsairs 4-1 in the first contest of the day before sweeping the Vaqueros 5-0 in the nightcap. Brooklyn Wallet and Faith Mackie won their four sets in two matches by an average score of 21-8.

The VC beach volleyball team did not drop a set Friday, sweeping two Western State Conference opponents in matches held at Cal State Bakersfield. The Pirates (8-4, 4-0) easily defeated Glendale in the opener before handling Victor Valley in the nightcap. Shantalle Ruiz and Kasie Spencer produced the biggest wins of the day at their No. 3 slot, winning 21-7, 21-7 against Glendale, and 21-9, 21-9 against Victor Valley.

The Ventura College beach volleyball team was on the road Friday on their home beach, taking on Bakersfield and host Moorpark in their Western State Conference openers at the Harbor Cove Courts at the Ventura Marina. The Pirates (6-4, 2-0) swept the Renegades 5-0 before edging the Raiders 3-2. Brooklyn Wallet and Faith Mackie had the match-winner at No. 4 against Moorpark, winning in three sets while Shantalle Ruiz and Kasie Spencer also had two victories on the day.

The Ventura College beach volleyball team dropped a pair of non-conference matches Friday at El Camino College. The Pirates (4-4) were swept by the host Warriors before losing a tight 3-2 decision to Mt. San Antonio. Jordan neria and Morgan Gallagher, and Faith Mackie and Brooklyn Wallet posted victories for VC in the match with the Mounties.

In a rare double header, the Ventura college beach volleyball team swept start-up Pasadena City College club team 5-0 and 5-0 Friday morning at the Harbor Cove Courts at the Ventura Marina. The pairs of Shantalle Ruiz and Kasie Spencer, and BrooklynWallet and Faith Mackie both posted two 2-0 sweeps over their oppoennts in their two matches.

While the cold wind and rainy days are rare at the beach in Ventura, they do occasionally occur. When they do, the Pirates battle the elements along with their opponents, just as they did Friday to open the 2019 season. And the Ventura College beach volleyball team opened the year wit a pair of victories over visiting Bakersfield and Palomar at the Harbor Cove Courts at the Ventura Marina. VC (2-0) swept the Renegades 5-0 before edging the Comets 3-2.
