Pirate Athletics Lists 83 4-Year Transfers for 2019-20

The Ventura College Athletic Department is pleased to report that they list 83 student athletes from 2019-20 who are slated to transfer to four-year institutions in the fall, as of August 31. Of those transfers, 60 plan on continuing their athletic careers at their new school, most of them with an athletic scholarship. The transferring student athletes will attend 58 different schools in 26 states around the country.

In a perfect world, the Pirates' beach volleyball team would have returned home over the weekend following their first ever team appearance in the CCCAA State Tournament. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the season ended two months ago with unfulfilled expectations. But in the short time the 2020 team made it to the sand courts, there was much to celebrate.

CCCAA Cancels Spring Seasons, Restores Eligibility

The California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Board of Directors voted unanimously on Thursday that the remainder of the 2020 spring sports season will be canceled, the spring season of competition for approximately 9,500 student-athletes will be restored and face-to-face recruiting and recruiting-related travel is being prohibited immediately but will be re-evaluated next month. Ventura College is a participant in the CCCAA, and the college has moved to all online instruction for the remainder of the spring semester.

VC Athletics Postpones Spring Sports Indefinitely

In accordance with a directive from the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA), Ventura College has indefinitely postponed all spring sports, including nontradtional seasons, due to concerns over the COVID-19 outbreak. The move was voted upon by the CCCAA Board of Directors on Thursday afternoon.

Ventura Takes Two on the Beach in Huntington

The VC beach volleyball team won a pair of matches Friday in Huntington Beach, sweeping Golden West 5-0 before defeating NCAA Division II Cal State Los Angeles, 3-2. Leslie Perez and Kayla Hosch won twice on the day, including the match-winner against CSULA while Morgan Gallagher and Miranda Unzueta also won twice on the day for the Pirates (5-1).

Pirates Kayla Hosch (13) and Leslie Perez (4) extended their opponents from Cal State Northridge to extra time in their first set, and defeated the No. 2 team from Long Beach Friday at the Ramon Calderon Cup in Northridge.
Pirates Split Contests at CSUN's Ramon Calderon Cup

The Pirates' beach volleyball team split a pair of matches Friday at the Cal State Northridge Ramon Calderon Cup. VC fell to the host Matadors 5-0 before rebounding to defeat Long Beach City College 4-1. Leslie Perez and Kayla Hosch extended their CSUN opponents to extra points in their No. 2 match and defeated Long Beach's No. 2 team 21-18, 21-18.

Beach Volleyball Opens 2020 With Two Wins

The Ventura College beach volleyball team opened the 2020 season Friday with a pair of wins at the Newland Courts in Huntington Beach. The Pirates defeated Cypress 4-1 in the opener before downing host Santa Ana 5-0 in their second match of the day. Brooklyn Wallet and Tatiana Rodriguez came from behind in the No. 3 slot to win their first match of the day against Cypress before sweeping through Santa Ana. VC's No. 1 pair of Raphaella Rosales and Vanessa Ihrke won their two matches in straight sets.
