VC Splits Pair to Open WSC Play

The Pirates' beach volleyball team splita apair of matches Friday to open Western State Conference play in Santa Barbara. Ventura defeated Moorpark in a tight 3-2 decision before falling to the host Vaqueros 4-1. Sadie Lishman and Jocelyn Alfar were 2-0 on the day, winning both of their matches on Court 2 for VC (8-2, 1-1).

The Pirates' beach volleyball team split a pair of matches Friday to open Western State Conference play in Santa Barbara. Ventura defeated Moorpark in a tight 3-2 decision before falling to the host Vaqueros 4-1. Sadie Lishman and Jocelyn Alfar were 2-0 on the day, winning both of their matches on Court 2 for VC (8-2, 1-1).

In the opener, the Pirates defeated the Raiders with three solid wins. Shai Daniels and Viola Barrios swept their No. 1 match, 21-16, 23-21 while Lishman and Alfar had an easier time on Court 2 with their 21-11, 21-15 triumph. Addison Olson and Monaye Ramessar clinched the Ventura win with a 21-17, 21-14 victory in the No. 3 slot.

Ventura dropped the nightcap on East Beach to Santa Barbara. Lishman and Alfar claimed the lone win with a 21-17, 21-11 sweep at No. 2. Daniels and Barrios won their first set 21-17 before falling in the second and third sets, 21-13 and 15-13, respectively. Olson and Ramessar also had a strong effort in their 21-15, 21-19 setback on Court 3.

the Pirates next travel to Santa Monica on Friday Mar. 13 to take on Glendale and Bakersfield at the Ocean Park Beach Volleyball Courts.
