Beach Volleyball Falls in SoCal Playoffs

The VC beach volleyball team had its 2026 team season come to an end Tuesday in the 3C2A Southern California Regional Playoffs at No. 1-seed MiraCosta College in Oceanside. The No. 8-ranked Pirates dropped a pair of 3-2 decisions to No. 9 Mt. San Antonio and the host Spartans, respectively. VC's Nos. 1 and 2 pairs of Shai Daniels and Viola Barrios, and Sadie Lishman and Jocelyn Alfar each recorded two wins on the day.

In the opener, Daniels and Barrios posted a 21-14, 21-13 win in the No. 1 slot while Lishman and Alfar rolled to a 21-14, 21-9 triumph on Court 2. Addison Olson and Monaye Ramessar fell in the No. 3 match, 21-13, 22-20 and Madison Mierau and Beira Boyso dropped a 21-14, 21-18 decision at No. 4. Aliana Hantgin and Valeria Ibarra came close to pushing the Pirates to victory, but fell in three sets, 22-20, 16-21, 15-9.

In the afternoon match, VC fought hard, but ultimately did not have enough to overtake the top-ranked team in the state. The Pirates dropped the Nos. 3, 4, and 5 matches, each in straight sets to fall to the Spartans. Daniels and Barrios were credited with a win at No. 1 after taking their opponents to a decisive third set, 21-18, 21-23 and Lishman and Alfar also won by forfeit headed to their third set, 15-21, 21-14.

Ventura ends the season with a 15-7 overall record after their sixth straight trip to the post-season. Meanwhile, Daniels and Barrios, along with Lishman and Alfar, will compete at the 3C2A Southern California Regional Pairs Tournament Friday and Saturday, May 1 and 2 at El Camino College in Torrance.
