2025 Ventura College Baseball Team News
Ventura College student athletes excelled once again in the classroom in 2024-25 with a total of 101 Pirates achieving a 3.5 GPA or higher, earning mention on the Dean's List, in the fall 2024 term while taking in 12 or more units of study, with 46 student athletes recording a perfect 4.0 GPA. In spring 2025, 99 VC student athletes were named on the Dean's List with 44 posting perfect GPA's.
Pirate outfielder Henry Borjas led a contingent of Pirates who were named to the All-Western State Conference North Division baseball team for the 2025 season. The sophomore from Rio Mesa High School earned a first team All-WSC nod for his play during the season and was also awarded a Gold Glove award as one o fthe conference's top defenders at his position.Caden Stillwell and Matthew Ramirez each were named second team all-conference.
The VC baseball team closed its 2025 campaign with a 14-4 setback at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria Friday. Henry Borjas had three hits, including two doubles, with a pair of runs scored to lead Ventura while Tommy Castaneda and Caden Stillwell also recorded two hits each. Castaneda, Grant Rodriguez, Lucas Martinov and Brandon Contreras all batted in runs for the Pirates (17-22, 12-12).
It was not the send off the Pirate baseball team was looking for Tuesday as they dropped a 7-1 decision against Santa Barbara in the 2025 home finale. Tommy Castaneda had a double and Frederico Tiburtini had an RBI single for VC. Grant Rodriguez walked and scored a run and Hunter Cervantes also recorded a single in the game.
The Ventura College baseball team turned in a dominant performance Saturday, defeating Oxnard 11-0. Frederico Tiburtini was 3-3 on the day with four runs batted in and a run scored to lead the effort at the plate while Jacob Roa scattered six hits over eight innings of work on the mound, striking out four while shutting out the Condors. Victor Tostado struck out two in a perfect ninth inning to close out the victory. Caden Stillwell and Grant Rodriguez each pounded out three hits and scored three runs in Ventura's 16-hit performance.
The Pirate baseball team had a rough start, but stayed in the game against Cuesta Saturday, falling 6-4 at Pirate Park. Caden Stillwell recovered from a rough opening frame, limiting the Cougars to to hits and one run over the next six frames on the mound, and led with his bat, going 4-5 including a home run and a double, with two runs batted in and two runs scored. Grant Rodriguez was 2-4 at the plate with two RBI and one run scored for VC ( 16-20, 11-10).
The VC baseball team earned a season sweep of Moorpark Thursday with a 6-5 extra-inning victory over the Raiders on the road. Brandon Contreras had a pair of doubles and two runs batted in to lead the offense fo rthe Pirates while Tommy Castaneda had a pair of hits with an RBI and a run scored. Cole Blommer picked up the win on the mound with three scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts in a relief appearance.
The VC baseball team dropped a 12-3 decision at Los Angeles Pierce College Tuesday in Woodland Hills, dropping the season series against the Brahmas. Matthew Ramirez was 3-5 with a double and a run scored and Grant Rodriguez had a pair of hits, including a double, and a run batted in. Caden Stillwell, Ben Drumheller and Daniel Aguilera also recorded two hits each for the Pirates.
The Pirate baseball team salvaged the final game of a three-game series with Hancock, defeating the Bulldogs 8-2 Saturday at Pirate Park. Starting pitcher Jacob Roa scattered five hits and gave up two runs while striking out three in the complete game win for VC (15-18, 10-8). Matthew Ramirez was 2-4 at the plate with three runs batted in while Henry Borjas also recorded three hits with an RBI and two runs scored.
The Pirate baseball team gave up another eight-run inning Thursday, setting the stage for a 9-4 loss at Hancock in Santa Maria. Ben Drumheller recorded two hits, including a double, and Henry Borjas knocked out a pair of hits and scored a run. Lucas Martinov also had two hits in the game and Matthew Ramirez scored twice.
The Pirate baseball team gave up an eight-run second inning and could never recover Tuesday, falling to Allan Hancock 11-7 Tuesday at Pirate Park. Brandon Contreras had a pair of hits with two runs batted in and a run scored while Tommy Castaneda and Lucas Martinov also recorded a pair of hits each with an RBI and a run scored. Outside the second, VC pitching gave up three earned runs while scattering seven hits over eight innings with four strikeouts and five walks.
The Pirate baseball team trailed 5-0 entering the eighth inning Saturday and scored three runs in the bottom of the frame, but could not complete the comeback against College of the Desert at Pirate Park. Lucas Martinov had a pair of hits, including a 2-run double in the eighth, to lead VC and Matthew Ramirez recorded two hits and scored a run. Jacob Roa had a solid start on the mound, giving up four runs, two earned, with three strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work.
The VC baseball team defeated Rio Hondo 11-9 Thursday, the second straight win by the same score over the Roadrunners. The Pirates had to hold off RHC on Thursday, however, holding an 11-5 lead before giving up four late runs in Whittier. Henry Borjas led Ventura with a pair of home runs and three runs batted in while Lucas Martinov had a pair of hits and two RBI. Grant Rodriguez also homered for the Pirates (14-15, 9-6).
The Pirate baseball team was nearly dead in the water Tuesday afternoon. They trailed Rio Hondo 9-2 entering the bottom of th eighth inning before sending 14 batters to the plate and scoring nine runs to post an 11-9 victory over the Roadrunners at Pirate Park. Grant Rodriguez delivered a two-RBI single to tie the game and Daniel Aguilera knocked in the game-winner. Austin Kurr retired the final four batters with a pair of K's to pick up the win.
The VC baseball team dropped a decision at Santa Barbara Saturday afternoon. Tommy Castaneda had a pair of hits, including a double, with two runs batted in and Grant Rodriguez also recorded a pair of base hits. Matthew Ramirez knocked in a pair of runs for VC.
Pirate sophomore Caden Stillwell had a day on Thursday. He went 3-5 at the plate with two doubles and a triple, knocking in three runs while scoring twice. And if that was not enough, he also allowed one hit over eight complete innings on the mound, striking out three to pick up the win in Ventura' s 9-4 victory over Santa Barbara at Pirate Park. Daniel Aguilera was 3-3, including a double, with two walks while batting in one run and scoring twice for VC (12-14, 9-5).
